My first attempt at mining

Geez...
What am I doing wrong?

I travel around 1,000kms on a single mining trip - i.e. that's the distance from when I drop in until I am full. (that's say, from 2.1Mm to 1.1Mm)
Try engaging mouselook and as you fly and hit the pulse wave analyzer (just keep the trigger depressed all the time), look from left to right across the asteroid belt.
This way you can spot the glowers outside the narrow-ish cone of the PWA.
Finally try not to waste time on marginal asteroids: Is it bright yellow: investigate. Does it have red/green/black lines on it? And is bright yellow? Investigate.
All others: fly on by!
You should get 10-15 bits of opal/LTD/etc on exploding the core efficiently, and then scrape off another 8-10 bits = up to 18t of good per core.

Thanks: 1) Great advice - gonna try that. 2) I do this. 3) Got 35 tons of Grandiderite yesterday out of 1 core. Scooped up 12t of Low Pressure diamonds out of another. I believe that I'm blowing up the 'roids well (though on at least two occassions I had to do it twice).

My issue is finding the high quality 'roids and I believe your advice will help greatly with that.
