General / Off-Topic My first book is published!

Congrats ... I've been following your tweets about this.

Briley Forester is a shy recluse, a gifted programmer troubled at work, a young woman surrounded at home by a wealthy life of gadgets, her only companion her black cat Smokey.

So it's an autobiography? :p

Hi Sarah, Congratulations.. I have bought a copy... I wish you great success..
I missed the kickstarter but I do support as many of our community i can and I will look forward to checking out your book and my teen daughter is an avid reader of supernatural style books.. she will no doubt love it.

Any idea if it will be in Amazon.com as well? Amazon.co.uk does not serve Kindle customers elsewhere in Europe...

I'm sure it will be. It's been set for world-wide sales, but I think it takes longer for it to appear elsewhere. I was surprised how fast it appeared. Amazon say 12-48 hours, but it appeared in under 3 in the UK!

The description sounds great, a bit harry potter in that a real world person is thrust into the magical world but a totally different angle being an adult programmer.

Because I live in Czech now I cannot download kindle books from amazon.co.uk only from amazon.com.

I will wait to see it appear on amazon.com

Good Luck, It has a chance I think to do well.

I'm really happy today! :D I got my first review! Sales are really slow right now, but then I'm all new to this.

I have another book in the pipeline that'll be out before end of July. It's more an epic fantasy (currently 111K words long), book 1 of a trilogy.

Reading this now, and I'm impressed! Good piece of work, and very flowing. Keeps up a consistent pace.

Characters are unique enough with their own personalities too, although at this stage they're not being given much time to shine in their own rights - the narrative skips between each encounter fairly quickly.

Riley comes across as a very young person, maybe younger than her literal age, which I'm not sure about. Is that deliberate? I get the impression she's mentally about 12, but if she's an experienced programmer with a big company I'm guessing she's in her mid twenties. I'm also not clear on where she's from, although I would guess either Britain or the US...

I like the story so far, but there's one criticism regarding the flow - the presence of the cat is inconsistent. Smokey is said to be pretty much always by Riley's side but there are big scenes where his presence is questionable. Is he there when Riley finds Lia? Is he there when she goes to see the blacksmith? I find it quite jarring when we're in a scene that just seems to be Riley and X person, then the cat suddenly appears as if by magic! (pun intended).

On the whole, though, I'm enjoying it and looking forward to seeing where it all goes! I would disagree that it has overtones of Harry Potter, since it's a whole different premise and executed differently. The only thing in my experience that it's close to is Terry Brooks' "Magic Kingdom" series, but even that isn't very close.

It's a friendly read. I feel like I'm being introduced to people who I might like (and some who I'll say "booooo" at later on).

Okay, so I need to get on forums more... saw this reply this morning... and it made me smile. :D I'll take all criticisms on board.

Right now I'm hard at work plotting out book 2 (it's almost done). This week I'm writing the overview, then next week I begin writing the actual book! My plan is to finish it before Christmas.

Oh, and I have another book from another series I'll be releasing soon... End of this month or the next, a darker, more adult-orientated story...

Sarah.

I'm fully intending to read this. Unfortunately, whenever I turn my PC on, I either end up here, or trying to work my way through my list of unplayed games on Steam.

I finished it and left a comment on Amazon for you. In all, a good book but my main criticism was that Riley comes across as very very young, maybe a lot younger than she's meant to be.

I'm not going to go into it any further. It's all in the review. :)

Overall, I enjoyed it though.

Lower price for my novel!

Hi everyone!

The other day I lowered the price of my novel. It's now £1.02 in the UK, $1.55 in the US.

Also... I'll also be publishing another book at the end of the month, book 1 of a more adult-orientated fantasy trilogy.

And the sequel to my first book is well under way! I've written 6 chapters so far, and am well on target for a September release. Anyone can check my progress on my Author Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/SarahJaneAvory

2013 is turning out to be a busy writing year for me!
