My First exploration experience

Greetings Cmdrs,

I have just got back to my home world after my first ever trip. I fell into exploring on a whim really, after getting frustrated with forever grinding materials and mission running, I even abandoned my power play on week 2 , I was so hacked off.

I didn't have a destination, I toyed with the idea of doing a long range passenger mission but decided I want the freedom to choose when, were and for how long I was out. I left Maia on the 7th of April heading down about 200ly off the galactic plain and just headed down towards the Perseus arm, stopping off at the Crab Nebula to sell my first ever full weeks data . I had covered about 8k ly in my first week. In fact I have stayed within about 10k ly from sol the whole trip.

I discovered 975 systems with approximately 700 firsts, countless water worlds, ammonia worlds, lava worlds, 3 ELW's I scoured pristine rings, rocky bodies, went mountaineering in my Srv, found 2 undiscovered neutrons which I loved and one white dwarf which had already been tagged.

I collected enough materials for about 50 G5 rolls, and dropped in on a planet that showed as only having 0.5% polonium and yet came away with 6 chunks in only 4 targets. Found ship wrecks strewn with cargo canisters, shame I had no cargo racks installed. Nav beacons, a crashed Srv , all interesting changes to the routine.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, the time just flew. On my last day ( yesterday) I was in a very sparse region of space at the back of the Barnards Loop nebula, I was down to doing one jump at a time the stars were so thinly scattered. I was lucky my Dbx has a 49.7ly jump range, but I needed a few 100% fsd boosts to get me on my way.

The credits I got for selling the data I consider a bonus, and I made pioneer so hopefully my next trip will put me on Elite.

My next project is to get myself an explorer conda, and engineer it up...I'm not looking to go extreme on it. as I want to take two Srv 's and a slf, but i should be able to get it up to near what my Dbx can do. Then I'll go visit some distant worlds.

I hated the last 23 jumps back to Cubeo, every system had been tagged but at the same time it was a relief to be able to put my foot down for a change.

Thanks for reading and hope to see some of you guys out there real soon.

Fly safe and keep her cool. o7

I can just feel the excitement oozing with this :D Getting out there in the black, finding your own way isn't for everyone, but it sure sounds like it is for you!

Thanks Cmdr..indeed I've always been a space and sci fi geek ..finding myself lost and unable to jump anywhere was at the time frustrating but challenging. That's what I liked about the trip..it can be a grind,..only if you let it :)

I cannot recommend exploring highly enough right now, I haven't calculated my full distance yet, but I'm expecting it to be around the 30k ly level. Enough to wet my appetite for sure

Stay safe

Delighted you enjoyed and profited from Exploring. Will be good to see your name recorded across the galaxy o7

Thank you Cmdr Cula-Ta ( interesting name :) ) I bookmarked every waterworld or planets of interest, so I have now seen my name in lights so to speak..I'm off in other direction next, decided I'm heading towards the core...I'll probably not even start surveying until I'm about 10k ly out depending what angle I go in at .

Thanks for the encouragement Cmdrs

Fly safe keep it cool o7

Wow Jon * respect * I had heard whispered rumours that there are true space nomads living beyond the reach of 99.9% of other players.

I get it now :) I see the attraction. Do you keep a log on EDSM ? I would love a peek at your stats sometime.

Fly safe and keep those engines cool.

Welcome to the black, when the exploration bug bites it can bite very hard indeed.

Here's to the next trip, fly safe Cmdr.

Thank Iain. I've only been back 2 days and I'm working on a route, possibly starting a bit touristy go see far out some ancient ruins and oddly I know have developed a fascination with giant stars with landable planets nearby. They make interesting backdrops whilst out having a nosy around [yesnod]

I left the Bubble with the FGE on the first launch of the Sagittarius-Carina Mission on August 1st 3301. Since then I have only returned to the bubble very briefly for the launch of DWE. Now Im slowly (very slowly) cruising back along that eastern spiral arm of the milky way... The other day I stumbled upon a recording of PVP-combat in the bubble... Yikes - I dread when I will eventually have to face that gauntlet in order to hand in my data, do a bit of engineering and stock up for the next expedition (already planned :D ).

Beware of the exploration bug - it may bite you hard :D

Corbin: there are bases to land in Eagle, Omega and Lagoon nebula. I guess these places are free of griefers. And you can always come home in solo play.

That's amazing Corbin ...likewise I'd love to see your stats sometime...I can now fully appreciate the attraction, it's a very unique opportunity to visit the stars we might have read about as a child, and to see the virtual galaxy or FDev's impression of it.

I was playing in open from when I first left, right until my last 998ly route plot to my home system , then I ducked into the fleet com private group. after battling with twin stars, neutron fields, high G planets was I ever going to lose my data to a pvp' r .

Never in a million ly was that going to happen :D

Guess you are going to like this :) There are some truly amazing places in the Galaxy. These are the Explorer's rewards. Not money or ranks :)

Exactly my kind of planet...great shot too where is it may I ask ? ...and I agree, if you explore you have little need for credits..an occasional repair and paint job, although I carry my paint job as my badge of merit...I've earned it...you can't buy it :)

Fly safe Cmdr ...and Jon, make that x2000 ..there's no comparison to life in the grind we call the bubble

I think it was HD 283350 - a 90RSol Carbon S star.
