My first SUPER jump!

i just jumped over a 130 LY in one go. THAT WAS AWESOME!

I remember my first Neutron star boost. I think it was ~200ly in one jump which was very exciting.
I thought I should practice NS scooping before the big jump to M67 just before the Distant Stars expedition.

Question: When you use a neutron star boost, do you plot the course before or after the neutron star skim.
Reason: I tried this twice. First time nothing happened.
Second time, the effect seemed to run out in a matter of seconds.

If you use the new fancy filter in the galaxy map for FSD boosts it should accommodate for the longer jumps. If you're unsure, you can manually select your destination with the orange "pin" in the galaxy view instead of the route plot button. The boost effect doesn't wear off until you've made a high-jump. It will disappear no matter how short that jump is.

You can't plot the jump until you have the range, so after.
The effect only last for a single jump, even if you only jump a short distance. It will stay boosted until you jump, there's no time limit.
You can't just fly through the neutron jet, you need to linger in there for about 5 seconds until you see the message that the FSD has been boosted.

You don't really "plot" a boosted jump normally, you just select a star at or near your boosted distance and then jump.
A "plot" will only allow a jump range based on a full tank of fuel. If your tank is not full, just select the star without plotting and you'll be able to jump further.
You can select the jet cone boost option in your course plotter and it will take care of it automatically and try to route you via neutron stars when they aren't too far off your course.

Check your right hand "functions" panel to see your current actual jump range

If your current range is normal, you're not boosted.

Since the latest massive update that gave us, uh, more flower ships, a couple new weapon, more bugs on the galaxy and system maps we also got a plotting feature that accommodates neutron boosts. From what I hear it's not always flawless, but it should work. I can't use it myself as the plotter is forced to find a scoopable star on every jump with my minimalistic tanks. :D

You can now also plot the course with "jet cone" enabled, which will automatically include neutron boosts in your route, which means you don't have to re-plot your jumps after obtaining the boost.

So you can either plot first, using the new option in the route plotter, or you can manually plot the jump after getting boosted.

Yup, like Orvidius said, I literally posted a screenie to show where the new jet cone plotter option is... :D
Manual plot per jump isn't a necessity any more.
The accuracy of our new 20 kylie plotter is reduced a lot, so, don't expect anything near the shortest route from point A to B.

The new jet cone boost option when plotting routes is excellent. I get about 200-205 ly per neutron jump and when deep in neutron territory that is 2 out of every three jumps. 900ly every 6 jumps is pretty amazing and allows you to get to the prime locations (whatever you decide is prime!) much faster.

I wish the plotting system was a little less conservative as I could easily do three consecutive 200+ ly neutron jumps without getting below 25% fuel reserves, but it seems to only ever auto plot two in a row for me. I have manually plotted 3, but it takes a lot more time to set up, and counters the time savings you get from the longer jump range.

I still remember the nerves I felt while sweeping my ship into the jet cone for the first time, with hundreds of new discoveries already on my ships computer...would I botch it? Lose everything? The nerves quickly shifted to awe with a 200ly jump showing on my screen.

It looks like your fuel capacity is factored in, but you're right that it leaves a safety margin. As a simple test, I tried taking my AspX to the edge of the neutron fields and tried course plotting with both the normal 32 ton tank, and with a 16 ton in its place. With the 16 tons (3 jump capacity), it would never plot two neutrons back to back. With 32 tons (a 6 jump capacity), it would sometimes plot 4 consecutive neutrons together.

Side Note. Never bother with a jet cone boost from a white dwarf. You can get the same jump range with jumponium.
The exclusion zone on a white dwarf is so large compared to the jet cones that the risk of hitting the XZ and dropping out of SC is too high a risk for the minimal reward. (IMHO)

*Phew* so happy to read this thread, as I was struggling to work out why my boosted jump was a mere 8Ly further than my normal range. Was using a bunch of boost-stars in and around the Bubble, so they're 100% white dwarfs.

White dwarfs, eh? They sure are tricky creatures, and as mentioned, the exclusion zone is bigger than expected. I didn't die, but I did have several panicky moments trying to keep the stars on my six.

:D
