My joystick lost its firmware during Elite Dangerous

Hi I wonder if anyone has had this happen where your joystick loses it's firmware while playing Elite Dangerous. I think it's probably the controller itself which is a thrustmaster warthog, and now I can't reload the firmware even after following the "bootloader" instructions several times. It's a secdond had controller so there's no waranty. Any adice would be great, otherwise back to looking for a new one. Thanks

No direct experience, but, leave the device unplugged for 24 hours, then plug it into a different USB socket, and start again from there.

Sorry I've no direct advice. Good luck.

I've got a Warthog but never had this issue. I can't see why ED would cause firmware loss though. Have you updated any other drivers on your system lately - USB drivers or motherboard firmware updates - that may have changed USB port settings? Windows 10? *shudders

Tried plugging it into another PC or laptop, to see if it's recognised?

Yes I too have got this problem ended up having to purchase another stick I have done as "henry 1491" has done but nothing has worked.
Still running under windows 7.

My advice: go and post a thread on a relivant reddit, and on thrust master's forums if they have them. Check their FAQ as well. You may find information there.

When looking for information about the Warthog, I found some mentions of the firmware going AWOL eventually. It read to me like the storage chip just gives out and would have to be replaced with a suitably programmed part.

does the Thrustmaster target software see the stick ?

No it doesn't but Device Manager sees it as "Bootload Thrustmaster HOTAS Joystick", and Game Devices doesn't see it at all. From what I can tell Device Manager should see it as HID Compliant Game Device, and then it would be able to take the firmware update. Unfortunately it never becomes "HID Compliant Game Device", so the firmware load fails.

I have a Saitek X-56 and sometimes it 'looses' its firmware. I don't really know whether it looses something or not. But sometimes the values are locked at 65535 by 65535 after I log in to Windows 7. Never happened while I played ED.

I put the hud.exe program into to my autostart so that when I log into Windows it gets automatically started and I check the joystick parameter and reconfigure it accordingly.

I had a lot of trouble with my Warthog throttle last night.

I could not get the drivers to install, would not recognize.

I found a web page that directed me to change my power settings. Take off the fast boot setting and change the 'USB selective suspend setting' to 'Disabled'
Worked great.

Screen shot is my office computer so ignore actual settings

Will have a look at that in the week.
Thanks for the post..

I have had this with my hotas, I bought a new one, recognised it straight away. unplugged it, plugged the one that wasn't recognised in. now recognised. sent new one back.
most usb problems are due to a conflict. best way to fix. unplug all usb devices except KB+M. reboot, replace each device one at a time. wait until the device plugged in to be recognised before plugging the next.
this error is due to all usb devices using the same driver.
also some usb 2 will not work correctly in a usb3
