My PvP FDL so far...need a little bit of advice

After playing this game for >750hrs I thought I get a bit into PvP, a thing I really haven't done so far.
But first things first, I need a suitable ship for this, so I started to engineer a FDL.

Here what I have so far: TCW|Jocki FDL eng

One thing I'm asking myself at the moment: What more to engineer? For all the 'small' staff (Chaff, Heatsink,...) I don't really like the downsides like more mass, more power consumption,...
Maybe lightweight sensor and of course complete armour and hull. Question is, what to take for the armour and hull modification?

Another aspect I'm not really sure about:
I tested the weapon layout in HRes sites against NPCs. While the shield will go down in seconds, the hull really makes it difficult for me.
On the other hand, this is the first time with fixed weapons, so of course I still have to practice a LOT.
I had four beam lasers before with efficient mod (2x Thermal Vent and 2x Thermal shock), but I didn't really liked them a whole lot, so they are stored away safely for the moment ;)
The rail/plasma combo is just huge fun :D

Another question: Where can I actually get into PvP? I mean except for PowerPlay, I don't want to start against CMDRS that have done this kind of thing for ages^^

If i were you i will try PVP with a small ship (small rebuy)
speed and agility are not to be negliged, but it's my point of view of course.

For your build i don't know, i'll let the experts tell you what you need, if you want to meet CMDRs for PVP, CG are usually the place to be

o7

That's the beauty of 750hrs of gameplay: money isn't an issue anymore :-D

i do not have issues with money as well but i find much more comfortable fighting in a small ship (it's harder for the enemy to actually hit you :))

edit : but the FDL is widely used across the galaxy for PVP so i should try it one day !!

Yeah, of course I want to have several ships for PvP: A small one, something with frags, a silent build and of course a corvette^^
oh, the grind will never end for this one... :-D

Lightweight reactive for the bulkheads. Ammo capacity on the chaff launcher and heat sinks. Can never have enough.

You got a 137 optimal multiplier for your dirties ?

Too much power mixed with 4 rails and plasma will result in significant overheating. Not sure if you've taken a look at the significant heat per second your weapon layout generates.

I would definitely argue you could gain some efficiency on your powerplant by rerolling with a lower tier.

Bulk: Reactive - Thermal resistant. Nice spread damage reduction diminishing odds of hard-counters.

I'd add light-weight modd on your 4A sensors. Makes for a nice little gain in exchange for a small scan cone reduction. This is less than the other way around: D-grade - long-range.

I would also DEFINITELY get rid of that scanner and grab all the extra resistance or armor you can instead.

I personally don't even bother with chaff.

Whoops, I'm pretty sure that was a mistake, probably 127, because then the velocity diagram matches the speed ingame. I'll check that again, but I'm currently away with another ship (looking for mats as always)
I think I'll also remove the discovery sensor for some reinforcement (not yet sure if hull or module - module is not mod-able, is it?) as suggested by EValve. The lightweight sensor will also come.

Edit: I have already read about Grade 5 vs. Grade 4 Power Plant...didn't think about that too much, because I just went for grade 5 for everything. Will probably change that too.

Edit2: Just checked, it's really 137...don't know about the diagrams from coriolis

Full rail builds are no longer viable due to the heat they generate, and the fact that you'll run out of ammo long before you bring someone's thermal resist shields down. Also, long range is the only viable rail mod due to the fact that it removes 100% of the normally abysmal damage falloff.

Phasing sequence weapons are very much out of the meta now, due to the very low bleed-through damage and the flat 20% damage reduction applied to the weapon itself. On top of that, OC PA's are horrible in terms of their DPE and cap draw, which is going to leave you stranded in a full rail build like that.

Standard shields are no longer viable either, being outclassed by either prismatics for strength or biweaves for regen. Also, not worth sacrificing a class 4 internal slot for a module reinforcement package. Move that to your C2 slot, and put another SCB in. Ditch the scanner and put your interdictor as a D1 for lower mass.

It's getting late for me here and I'd like to type out a lot more to help, so join us at the GCI discord server and we'll get you all sorted with a build and PvP events: https://discord.gg/Fph3kFs

Thanks a lot for the input, I found the 2.3 Combat Build Guide...makes all good sense, and I'll go from there. Seems like more mats to collect^^
