Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

I
Right, the best sightseeing missions are often multiple-hop. The distances shown on the mission description (no arrival time, mind!) are from your starting location, and do not show the distance you must travel from one tourist stop to the next. So you might fly 'down' 150 light years to one, then need to fly 'up' to the next which was also shown as 150 light years, but these two spots are perhaps 300 light years from one another.
Ha! Love it !

That is what I like about this game, you can play it as you see fit.
I am not always exploring. In fact, for the past 8 months or so previously, I was in my home system boosting my factions presence and helping it to expand into nearby systems.

During that 8 months I probably travelled no further than about 20 ly's from my home system, depending on what missions I had to do.
Yes, as you've all said, there's so many different ways to play ED. That must be one of its principal attractions.

Maybe the Visitors Beacon is a the LHS 2265 System ?
Yes! I think that's it! Christ, it a bloody long way away !
Any mission that you look at will have, at the bottom of the screen, the target system's distance. There is also a button to click to show you whereabouts on the galaxy map it is.
That way you can determine if it's too far for you.

Thought I'd refuel at the only station out here. It was a bit of a run, but who cares. Don't want to run out of fuel. MISTAKE ! I got interdicted ! He wanted my passenger ! So I did a runner. Stuff him ! He was even firing at me ! And me unarmed ! B****r him ! Passenger too p****d care ! He was egging me on ! Anyway we go away, docked and my passenger has headed off to the passenger lounge looking for a bit of talent ! 🤣
In all seriousness, this has been great fun.

And I got here all on my own, well ..... nearly ...... and I stayed so calm ....... 🤭
Thanks guys. (y)

Haha, sounds about right. I'm glad you had fun with it. Those missions can be a bit more involved than courier stuffs!

Meanwhile, I decided I was going to try out one of those take an explorer here and get paid millions passenger missions... in an Orca... with a luxury cabin.
So I know have the Bronze Mermaid using the 6A dirty grade 5 + drag thrusters from the Krait II. The Orca is the fastest ship on boost I've flown so far. I almost smacked into a space station with it. The Engineered V1 FSD and Guardian FSD booster also fit and I've done some light weight engineering to around grade 3 on life support and sensor because the materials up to that level are easy to get and I have bucket loads of them. Also low emissions 1 plus thermal spread on the power plant because the luxury cabin takes up the 6A fuel scoop space, so I have to make do with a 5A which is taking 55 seconds instead of 36 seconds to fill the tank. About 55ly jump range in a ship that sounds and feels quiet and refined - it feels luxurious. The boost is a laugh, because it politely warns the passengers they are about to have their head snapped back with a "bong" followed by an explosion of thruster noise. I understand the Dolphin is similar.

So I have over a 11,000ly each way trip to just past Sagittarius A* and back to Colonia for which I will get paid 35 million credits plus whatever the exploration data is worth. It's 134 jumps to get there. It's not a bad distance to go for 34 million. It's usually 22,000ly each way for that sort of money. Not that this is really about the credits. What will I find on the way? The mad thing is I'm planning to join an expedition very close to where I'm going 11 October, so I need to get back there in the Phantom - which makes is in about 105 jumps.

Also because it's such fast ship on thrusters, it's a good candidate for chasing after and scanning wake signals. So I put an 0A wake scanner on it, and for the first time ever I have found not one but two Data Mined Wake Exceptions "in the wild" rather than trading for them. For Wombat's benefit, you need 21 of of them as part of the ingredients to get the Engineered FSD V1. You get 3 units per scan.
Just seeing if I can find another passenger mission going to a similar location before I leave.

Yes, I did check the distance on the Galaxy Map, but only to the first objective. Didn't really appreciate what the second objective meant. In fact, I'm still not sure, but whatever..... I'll find out soon enough.

It's 1.45 am, so I'll read this tomorrow. ;)

Oh ! And I thought it was my chance to help him! I don't know whether to 🤣 or 😢 .

Oh ! So that means if want to change from passenger-carrying to object-couriering, I have to fly back to the station holding my Rack to make the change ? 😧
It would be easier to just buy a new Rack ! 😡
With modules that are readily available and that you haven’t engineered it is often more convenient to just buy and sell as needed especially as you get your money back when selling.
The ones that you have engineered or that are harder to find can if you visit outfitting be transferred from whatever station you stored them at to your current location, there is a charge based on the cost of the module and the distance it has to be shipped, this also takes time from around 5 minutes to over 60 hours for 22,000 light years which is the highest figure I know the numbers for.

This commander knows the finer things in life :)

But between you and me, keep the Orca talk on the down low, musn't let others in on it you know. The Orca has climbed to seventh least popular on Inara, and this will not do.

500Ly jump range ! Bloody hell ! I need that like a hole in the head ! 😜
The bad news about carriers includes but isn’t limited to;
Weekly standing charge, if not paid the carrier is repossessed
Can‘t fly anywhere only jump
Can only jump three times in an hour regardless of jump length
Fuel!
etc. etc.

I've given the bloody tourist a second bottle of whiskey and he's fallen asleep thank Christ !
The requests for me to do or buy things from passengers which weren’t in the original contract are why the only time I carry them is when helping evacuate a burning station and even then I have to grit my teeth as each batch loaded tries to bribe me to leave their friends and neighbours behind to die in the flames so they can get away sooner.

Over 100 jumps later, many neutron stars, I can safely say the Orca is a decent choice in and around populated space where you will be out of supercruise and boosting around a bit to enjoy it's speed and refinement. I'm running a power plant with low emissions grade 1 with thermal spread just like I have on the Phantom, and it's running 5% hotter than the Phantom when away from stars, and it heats up quicker near stars when charging the FSD. It's not a replacement for the Phantom as a pure exploration ship, but I'll keep hold of it for at least a while to run sign seeing tours.

That sounds a typical human response and similar to the shameful way Australia turns away the boat people or any refugees. It's even refused the return of 40,000 of its own for the last 18 months because of Covid.

All above my simple understanding. 😕

.
😏 Not for me.

A pic from today's adventure :p

What the hell are you flying ? 🤨
That is a Trident, a fighter craft made with ancient technology from the Guardian race. It's quite an interesting little ship, and certainly striking looking.

There are 3 types of Guardian fighters that can be manufactured, once you've acquired the necessary components to "unlock" them.

I just think it's cool so I bring it along on planetary excursions sometimes. I happened to see this interesting looking planet today and flew down to take a look at it close up.
