Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

Er, no.

Assuming you know the beacon name, just enter it at the very top (where it says "Jump to attraction").

If not, then select Beacon from the Group dropdown, then enter the system you're in into Reference System. Then scan through the list to find the one you're after (this might be a huge list so hopefully you do know the beacon name).

Sorry. Bit down today. I failed the mission. Shouldn't be surprised, but I'm very disappointed. I'm preparing a history of what I did for discussion here at the thread.
Don't feel too bad, those missions are rather involved. I think you did well getting as far as you did. You didn't even get blown up. :D

Thanks. The experience I've gained has been huge. The importance of careful planning BEFORE you leave is mandatory.
However, let me document what happened. I made light of the journey while on the journey because I DIDN"T EXPECT TO FAIL.
Failure has brought me back to earth. I need to use a failure as an experience. A bad one, but don't waste it.

Well ..... where do start ?
Simple ....... I failed the tourist passenger mission ...... 😢

However, I am not sure why ....... 😕
Firstly, let me go through what happened on the flight and ask questions (yes more questions ..... 😏)

There were two requirements to complete the mission successfully:
How about that !
1. Take a tourist to see the "Boosting Federal Fleet (BFF)".
...This turned out to be a Beacon in System Gooheimar.
...Unfortunately, I hadn't realized this before I commenced the journey.
...So when I got to Gooheimar, I didn't know what I was looking for,
...... AND that there was also a second beacon I had to find in another System.
...I eventually found BFF, opened my CONTACTS PANEL, and scanned it.
...Unfortunately, I received no obvious advice that the scanning had been a success.
...At this point I had worked out there was a SECOND Beacon to visit.
...This Beacon being in another System.
...It was the 'Visiting Beacon (VB)' in the 'LHS 2265 System').

2. Taking the tourist to the "VB" in LHS 2265.
...I commenced my journey to the LHS 2265 System.
...However, because of the lateness of the hour (that's my 'hour', it was 1.45 am in the morning),
......I decided to dock my craft at a Station, the 'Laplace Ring' in the 'Balante' System.
...During traveling to the Laplace Ring I got interdicted, but managed to escape, docked, and logged off.
...I returned 3 hours later (that's 3 hours of my time) logged on and recommenced the journey to LHS 2265.
...Having arrived at LHS 2265, I quickly located the VB, flew to it, and attempted to scan it.
...Only to be told I had failed the mission.
...Currently, I'm holed up at the 'Abe Reserve (AR)' Station in the LHS 2265 System.

But what about this !!! ;)
Question 1: Is it obvious as to why I failed the mission ?
....................If so, what is the reason ?
Question 2: Where is my tourist?
....................Did I leave him behind at the Laplace Ring Station ?
....................Is he still aboard my ship and with me now ?
Question 3: Did I scan BFF correctly ?
If not, what did I do wrong ?
...................And, why was it not confirmed that I had (or hadn't) done so ?

That'll do for the moment.
Thank you.

EDIT: Damn ! Why doesn't <TAB> work when writing text. Make it so much easier to read the above

The passenger was a wanted criminal. If you got scanned, he got arrested. That kinda p!ssed him off and he won't be able to pay.

First time I did a two stop passenger mission I didn't do the stops in the order the mission specified. You have been to the places in the right order - good start.
You passenger is secretive and does not like being scanned. Did you see SHIP SCAN DETECTED at any point while entering stations or if you were interdicted and scanned by another ship?
That will fail the mission.
If you ever see SHIP SCAN DETECTED when carrying passengers who don't want to be scanned, immediately deploy a heat sink and it will prevent the scan from completing, eve if you are entering a space station.
You will need to drop your passenger off at a space station somewhere - anywhere.
If you go to the right side ship panel (press 4), go to INVENTORY, then go down the list of inventory types to the last one on the list that looks like a suitcase, it will show you your passenger cabin(s) and how many passengers they have in them.

Sometimes when you first arrive in a system you need to fly to within 1000ls to see the visitor beacon / point of interest come up on the navigation list. You will normally have an instruction to fly toward a particular planet until the beacon appears on the list.
When you supercruise to a visitor beacon, you travel toward one of the open circle symbols on the HUB just like any planet or other navigation point has. When you exit supercruise, look for a white square on the radar roughly in front of you, target it and wait for the scan to complete. It is exactly the same as scanning a navigation beacon.
I get the impression you know how to do this now, but not scanning the beacon correctly is a possibility, but you don't usually fail the mission if you leave without scanning the beacon - you can come back and try again.
Did you run out of time? The missions have a time limit, but you usually have at least 23 hours 59 minutes.

Running out of time or being scanned seem the most likely explanations for failure.

As I said in my Post #991, I am currently at Abe Reserve in the LHS 2665.
It's nice here.
The name is easy to say, as is the other Station's and it's System.
More importantly, it's smaller, it's struggling, and needs support.
And I like that.

The Orca - I could have flow my mission to Explorers Rest in the Krait Phantom with a first class cabin and a 65.91ly jump range. But I did it in the Orca with only 55ly, although it could have been a bit better if I had put light weight thrusters on the ship and a smaller power plant. Some people use an Orca as there exploration ship. That means giving up about 7ly jump range over a DBX/ASPX/Phantom, flying a ship that heats up more easily fuel scooping and charging the FSD, and because exploring is mostly in supercruise, you rarely get to enjoy the best thing about the Orca.
It's considerable speed and refined luxury feel using thrusters.
I like it for that and have the credits to spare to keep the Bronze Mermaid for fairly short range passenger missions in the Colonia region. So I gave her a fitting paint job while at Explorers Rest near Sagittarius A*.

For the new commander trying to build their fortunes, ships like the Dolphin and Orca are too expensive and take too long to make back their buy in cost. There is always a cheaper ship that can be more profitable despite not being able to use luxury cabins. When you have the credits spare to play at being a luxury cruise liner captain, these ships are a delight. I don't get the Beluga though. The best fuel scoop you can put in a Beluga takes 3 minutes 33 seconds to fill it's enormous fuel tank and you can get more passenger cabins in the glorious Anaconda. The Orca is more than enough to get the cruise ship captain game play experience.

Remember that the game clock is always running. If you have any type of mission and you log out, make sure that you log back in before the mission expires.

Oh yes ! I could have been scanned a number of times.
Because I wasn't alerted to being scanned.
That is by 'flashing red lights', or a 'screaming siren', whatever; I didn't worry.
However, when scanned and interdicted,
I knew about it ! 😲
So was this when I lost the mission (as Cohen said) ?

Getting arrested (
IF HE DID????) was he removed from my ship then?

Yes, got this right.
When you supercruise to a visitor beacon, you travel toward one of the open circle symbols on the HUB just like any planet or other navigation point has.
I targetted any beacon just like I would if it was a Station. I seemed to find the beacons easily. Maybe I was lucky in just being close to them so they "showed up".
When you exit supercruise, look for a white square on the radar roughly in front of you, target it and wait for the scan to complete. It is exactly the same as scanning a navigation beacon.

I think I got it right, although Codger said I will be "told" if I was successful. I wasn't.
To scan, I used an option in the Nav Panel - Contacts and you can select "Scan". You "see" it scanning.

Did you run out of time? The missions have a time limit, but you usually have at least 23 hours 59 minutes.

Running out of time or being scanned seem the most likely explanations for failure.
Thanks. In regard to this, have a look at my "Question 4", post #1000 (or should be).

Question 4
Some missions must be exceptionally long. Maybe taking hours to complete.
How do you take a rest, get some sleep and complete the mission ?
I had a 3 hours break. Did this maybe help me to fail ?

When you go into the mission selection, it should show you a timer as to how long - real time - you have before it expires and you fail. As long as you complete and hand it in, you can do what you like.

I’m not sure from your description that you are properly scanning the beacon. The navigation target you see in supercruise is not the beacon itself, just like the navigation target for a station is not the station itself. Did you actually disengage supercruise when you arrived at the beacon? Did you then target the physical beacon, point the nose of your ship at it, and wait for the scan to complete?

Let’s start there.
