Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

Websites never get on well with formatted text copied from something like Microsoft Word in them. In website design terms tab can never function correctly as it is meant for controlling format in a printed document, where web pages are meant to flow and adapt to differing screen sizes.
I find it very hard to read red text - it's too dark and my eyes are 51 years old and don't work as well as they did 7+ years ago 😀
Thanks for that. Yes, understand. It was just that I had put hours in preparing the history about what had happened and it was a big issue for me. Still is. I don't like failing. Ok if I've done everything in my power not to fail ...... but if I haven't ....... like in this case ..... look out ! ;)

By the way, I'm curious as to why you chose to take a wanted criminal on a sightseeing mission for your very first passenger mission.
Good question.
It was a single person.
I didn't have to go far. (That was before I realized there were two Systems to visit.)
I didn't see him as a dangerous passenger.
The mission was worth 850,000 credits. Not 8,500 credits or 8,500,00 credits.
I thought it looks a good step up from my normal 20,000 credit missions.
I was able to plot the mission on the Galaxy Map. (Well .... it turned out to be only part of it).

There could have been other things, but it didn't matter: I just wanted to do a mission. What a mistake. More care next time. 🙄
As I said previously, these are really smuggling missions. You have to avoid being scanned, and it's quite difficult to do that. You can be scanned at any station, entering or leaving. You can be scanned at the tourist beacon. You need to be fast and sure of yourself to get in, get out, without being scanned. At stations you have to dock quickly and avoid any system authority vessels. Popping a heat sink will sometimes break a scan in progress, but not every time.
Yes. I underestimated what I was taking on.
However, I have learned more quality in this mission about playing ED, than all the training I've done so far.
They say, in life, you learn so much more from your mistakes than you ever will from your successes.

Ask any losing side in a football Grand Final. They are twice the team next year. ;)

The red text didn't give it away?

I think I said this before, but it bears repeating. Always read all the mission text. Twice. Then decide. :)
Yes, it's that f'ing planning I didn't do !
What red text ? Or alternatively, I thought the red text meant it was beyond my skill level and therefore didn't apply to me.

Go back and look at the screenshot you posted. It says clearly, in red text, that the passenger is wanted.

And of course anything in the mission text applies to you, red text or not. Being above your skill level is also important. Why would you think it doesn't apply?

I use 'orange' rather than 'red'. Have a look at my Post #999. Is that ok ? If not, tell me, and I'll change it. No problem. (y)
51 ? You're just a boy ! That's right isn't it Codger ? 🤭

The red text can help indicate who is wanted or whatever, but it is still possible to have a famous explorer on board who has no red text in the mission description, who is secretive and will not pay up if your ship is scanned. I have a party of 8 on board right now on a 22Kly round trip paying 35 million who are exactly this. My finger will be hovering over the heatsink button when I get back to the station!

Back to my passenger mission.
Question 5: On the journeyback home to Kha, I cover a 137.8LY. But only used 34 'whatever' of fuel. Maybe just 5% at the most.
I was "kissing" stars with my fuel scoop. Could that have been doing it ?

Ok. I have taken note about 'red text'. Thanks.
You're the third CMDR who has mentioned "heatsink".
I thought it was just for overheated fuel scooping ......

It is usually clear when the fuel scoop is active as scooping progress pops up in front of you. Fastest progress is usually scooping a little at every scoop able star you pass only completely filling up before jumping to a neutron star or other sequence of stars you can't scoop from.
