Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

The thing I see is:
1. Temperature measurement,
2. Scooping rate. (Fuel per sec I think}.

In the case of temperature, it's very uneven and will climb steadily from say 50 to 60, but then jump from 60 to 140 degrees instantaneously ! :(
The scooping rate never moves off zero. :(
If the scooping rate is zero, it means the tank is full - time to move away from the star and make the next jump.

ED - LHS289 - Galaxy View.jpg

You seem to have your gal map set on realistic view, which is fine, but normal map view will colour the stars depending on their type.

I find it makes things so much easier to understand.

I just read you are using economy mode route plotting. If you want to visit every star on a route, or you don't have a fuel scoop or enough fuel to get to your destination, this will help to complete the journey using less fuel and you get to see every star.
I you are trying to get to your destination quickly, you'll need to use fastest route and then use the fuel scoop much more frequently.
Also if you enable jet cone boost on your route, the route planner will take you through systems with neutron stars or white dwarves, you fuel scoop the swirling jet cones until you here "Frameshift Drive Supercharge" and then you can make a jump 4 times further than normal. I recon it's worth not doing neutron star jet cone boosts until you are already comfortable using fastest route and normal fuel scooping.

For the record, the first time I did the Robigo Mines to Sothis Sirius Astrometics tourist beacon run in an ASP X, I didn't know how it all worked and what the dangers were. I only knew to run without shields to get an extra passenger cabin in for more profit per run. When I got to the tourist beacon, I fumbled around in the galaxy map trying to plot my route back while a ship that had been chasing me dropped out of supercruise, scanned the ship and then opened fire. Boom! I didn't just fail the mission, I took a trip to the rebuy screen, so my failure was complete.
After that I always ran in silent running mode at the tourist beacon and even popped a heat sink at the same time as charging the FSD so I never had to leave silent running mode making it impossible to scan the ship. If you try to charge the FSD in silent running mode without using a heat sink, I expect the ship would explode.

Back to my passenger mission.
Question 5: On the journeyback home to Kha, I cover a 137.8LY. But only used 34 'whatever' of fuel. Maybe just 5% at the most.
I was "kissing" stars with my fuel scoop. Could that have been doing it ?
Yes, I've just dived into a Star accidentally and made a rapid exit. However, my scoop came out while exiting. I could see the fuel tank filling ! And the temperature never got above 64 degrees ! (y)

64 degrees is not bad at all. The Krait Phantom with a little power plant engineering to keep things cooler runs at 54 degrees while scooping, but the Orca with the same engineering runs at... 64 degrees. It makes the Orca a little more troublesome to fly on the 22Kly round trip I've just finished. I have to watch the temperature more and wait a bit longer to start the next jump.

Right ...... I normal. on the galaxy map, highlight the system I want to journey to, and click on the second icon which marks the journey for me.
I don't select Econ. or Rapid and I'm assuming it's set on Econ. by default.
How do I select Rapid ?
Also if you enable jet cone boost on your route,
Is that one of the other icons next to the route planner icon ?
the route planner will take you through systems with neutron stars or white dwarves, you fuel scoop the swirling jet cones until you here "Frameshift Drive Supercharge"
" ........ here "FDS" ...... " What do you mean by this ?

Oh ! Not good ! :(

How nice the I can follow all that you are saying (except about the FSD). A month ago I would not have understood any of it ! Ha !

Oh ! I've been trying to scoop at 95 to 100 degrees ! 😲 I thought that was what the video tut. said. 🤔

Every single word of the mission text is important, especially in passenger missions.

Here's a typical sightseeing type mission, which I'll use as an example.

View attachment 266904

Important stuff to notice on this mission:

1) It's a criminal passenger, says so right at the top
2) Passenger "may be wanted in multiple systems." In red text in the middle. Since you don't know which systems they will be wanted in, you have to assume they are wanted everywhere
(y)
3) Passenger traits
a) Unfazed by danger. You don't have to worry about hull damage
b) Laid-back. Doesn't care about delays
c) Low value target. Unlikely to have hostile ships attacking (but still could happen)
d) Secretive. Being scanned is a no-no, passenger will tolerate maybe 1 scan. Maybe.
e) Criminal. If you are scanned by system authorities they will open fire on you.
4) Elite rank mission -- this means any ships sent against you will be of high level also.
Oh! That's good stuff to know. Sorry, that's obvious, but thanks.
I personally dislike passenger missions because they are so convoluted, with so many gotcha's. I prefer cargo that doesn't talk back, too :)
Funny, I was just thinking the opposite ! 🤭
Missions are challenging, not like carrying a boring bit of cargo.
Maybe one needs to carry drugs. ;)

Just on an unrelated matter: How did you "step in" the "a), b), c). etc" shown above ?
It's a nice touch that I've been trying to do, as you would have read in my posts .....
Oh! They are only stepped in in the texting mode! As soon as you upload to the thread, it's lost ! Just like when I do it ! :ROFLMAO:

cribs3 ? Quain ? Codger ? and anybody else who is a regular poster (or less regular poster ;)):
If it is 12.00 midnight GMT, what time is it with each of you ?
This will help me work out when you should "be up" or "in bed". Well ..... that is unless you are like me: I'm all over the place ..... 🤭
By-the-way, 12 midnight GMT is 11.00 am for me. I think ........ 🤔 :ROFLMAO:

You're gonna wind up switching tabs all the time regardless, cuz some stuff comes in as chat and some as messages.

Right! Now that makes a lot of sense. Will toggle a <key> so as to do both.

In the CONTROLS OPTION, what am I looking for to set a <key> to toggle between CHAT and MESSAGES in the Communication Panel ?
Thanks.

On the Galaxy Map, there is a Grid Reference (see below, together with more questions ).
ED - Grid Ref..png

A vertical and horizontal Grid Reference would allow you to locate a 3 dimension point in the ED galaxy. I would have thought this very useful. 🤔

There's more than one way of skinning a cat ..... ;)

And there is a way to make a list with the formatting tools here, I just didn't bother.

Heading
A line here
A line there
A line here even deeper
Back to here
Etc.

So it can be done, but you have to use the built-in editor here, you can't paste it in.

How about this !
1. Take a tourist to see the "Boosting Federal Fleet (BFF)".
...This turned out to be a Beacon in System Gooheimar.
...Unfortunately, I hadn't realized this before I commenced the journey.
...So when I got to Gooheimar, I didn't know what I was looking for,
...... AND that there was also a second beacon I had to find in another System.
...I eventually found BFF, opened my CONTACTS PANEL, and scanned it.
...Unfortunately, I received no obvious advice that the scanning had been a success.
...At this point I had worked out there was a SECOND Beacon to visit.
...This Beacon being in another System.
...It was the 'Visiting Beacon (VB)' in the 'LHS 2265 System').

2. Taking the tourist to the "VB" in LHS 2265.
...I commenced my journey to the LHS 2265 System.
...However, because of the lateness of the hour (that's my 'hour', it was 1.45 am in the morning),
......I decided to dock my craft at a Station, the 'Laplace Ring' in the 'Balante' System.
...During traveling to the Laplace Ring I got interdicted, but managed to escape, docked, and logged off.
...I returned 3 hours later (that's 3 hours of my time) logged on and recommenced the journey to LHS 2265.
...Having arrived at LHS 2265, I quickly located the VB, flew to it, and attempted to scan it.
...Only to be told I had failed the mission.
...Currently, I'm holed up at the 'Abe Reserve (AR)' Station in the LHS 2265 System.

But what about this !!! 😲 ;)

Question 1: Is it obvious as to why I failed the mission ?
....................If so, what is the reason ?
Question 2: Where is my tourist?
....................Did I leave him behind at the Laplace Ring Station ?
....................Is he still aboard my ship and with me now ?

What built-in editor ? I couldn't find anything, but what's new.
