Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

Wombat1940:
Oh! Right! Sorry, a total miscalculation by me. 😖
Your "6 hrs forward" from me. That's how I calculate your time. Might be the wrong day but I don't care about take.
So, right now, it's 2.00 pm for me, so it should be ........... 8.00 pm for you ? 😯

Ok. 12 midnight for me it's 6.00 am for Codger. (y)
Wombat1940:
What about now ? It's 7.15 pm with me now, so what is it with you now ?
crib3:
Right now, as I am typing this, it is exactly 9.15 am.

Wombat1940:
Ok. 12 midnight for me it's 2.00 am for crib3, Quain, and RJ. (y)

Wombat1940:
Forget about daylight saving changes right now.
However, I have noted after 31 October clocks will go back an hour for crib3, Quain and RJ.
;)

Ok ......... It's 8.00 pm for me now so that's ..............
2.00 am for Codger and .........
10.00 am for crib3, Quain and RJ.
I hope .......... 😖

Bloody hell. Talk about making it complicated. 😂

Look here...

You are 10 hrs ahead of the UK.

Oh sorry my mistake. From what you wrote above I thought you were trying to figure out time zones.

Thought I was helping. Obviously not. 🤔

If I'm in a hurry I'll fuel scoop at maximum supercruise speed. Throttle in the blue zone is more normal though. You can scoop on zero throttle while using Full Spectrum Scanner to scan the system, but it takes longer to collect fuel.
The other problem with using the FSS while scooping is that the star takes up a good portion of the screen and often blocks out half the signals. On my trip back from Sag A*, I learnt class M star systems are rarely worth more than honking and then a quick glance at the FSS to see if there's more than icy planets out there.

And Wombat, if you're scooping at 95% heat, you're doing something wrong. Different ships have different heat profiles, but 65-70% generally should be enough for a small scoop to max out. The good news is you only sustain module damage if you hit over 100% (not that you'll need to know this, but this can be a desired effect in some situations)

95% is excessive. It may because of the ship, module, cooling ability etc. but it may also be because of too close a proximity to the star. And type of star to some extent.

Sure, I FSS scan what I can while fuel scooping and then move away from the star to get the bodies that were obscured by the star.

That is what I do.
Although I can't say that I see any difference in collection speed whether I'm at zero throttle or not.
I understand others do it differently. However, is there anything wrong with what I am now suggesting ? A simple yes or no will be sufficient, and if it's no, and you feel like it, tell me the reason why. Thank you.

But I'm not scooping at 95 degrees (or %, whatever) ....... I did ...... as I said ...... but, I repeat, as I said, I am not.

Sorry, but in all the talk of time zones, I missed what you are suggesting. Is it the advice in here?

Nothing wrong with that advice, but I think their screenshot is a little unfortunate and probably where the confusion arose from.

This:
I'm successfully scooping at 65 degrees and on the move. Briefly "skipping' the star. In and ........and.........and ........ out. Just watch the temperature.

Sounds right in general and the "in and out from the star" sounds right for the Hauler. You should find with other ships that run cooler you get later you won't have to go in and out from the star to keep scooping and not overheat.

Thanks Desie (hope that doesn't offend ;) ). Bloody time zones ...... I'm sick of them ! :ROFLMAO:
Yes, it was that video clip (your 'here') that was in question.
I'd mistakenly promoted it. 😖
It does promote scooping at 95-96% (sorry, I was incorrectly using degrees, but it doesn't change anything),
and I was trying to point the dangers in doing it that way but,
more important, not necessary.
I hope my suggested alternative method of scooping explains my safer way.
What I am asking experience pilots is if my method would work, be safe and ok to promote as an alternative,

NOT invite others to talk about their method and totally confuse everybody.
Nothing wrong with that advice,
Do you mean my advice in post #1137 ?
but I think their screenshot is a little unfortunate and probably where the confusion arose from.
What screenshot ? 😟 There is no screenshot in my stand-alone post (post #1337). Or I hope there's not. 🥺

I'm not sure what you're suggesting, actually :)
Oh dear ...... now that does worry me ....... 😖
Let me look again:
" ........ I understand others do it differently. However, is there anything wrong with what I am now suggesting ? A simple yes or no will be sufficient, and if it's no, and you feel like it, tell me the reason why. Thank you. ...... "

Right, get to the point Wombat:

" ...... is there anything wrong with what I am now suggesting ? ...... " " ....... yes or no ? ....... "

And repeating what I'm suggesting, take from the post in question (#1137):
" ...... I'm successfully scooping at 65 degrees and on the move. Briefly "skipping' the star. In and ........and.........and ........ out. Just watch the temperature. ...... "

That better ? 🥺

Thank for the "guarded" "YES" ;) and more importantly, explain why you're being careful in ok'ing it. (y)
Yes, you're right, I should say "this is Hauler experience only".
Yes, it might apply, or not apply to other ships, BUT I'm definitely not saying either. It's Hauler experience only.
Thanks. (y)

I've made change to post #1137.
Quain ?
Would you please check to see if the change meets with your ok ?
Thanks. (y)

Well, I meant the link you posted, but post #1137 also works. It's the method I use with my FDL (which cooks quicker than a minute steak 🔥)

I also meant the screenshot (screengrab) from the link:
