Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

For what it's worth, I created my own little bubble of explored systems, way out past Colonia, a couple years back. I was out exploring in a section that was completely undiscovered by anyone, and was enjoying the process of tagging planets, looking for good mining locations, and all that stuff.

I found my very first (and still only) Earth-like World (ELW), and decided to tag the entire system so no one else would ever be able to have their name on anything there. Much later, when they added surface mapping, I went back out there and mapped them all, too. I think of it as Codger's System, lol.

I stayed for quite a while, and used the Visited Stars filter on the Galaxy Map to determine which systems around there I had yet to explore. I wound up creating a small bubble of visited systems, all discovered by me.

So that's how I did it. I didn't try to draw a sphere on the map, I just went to the nearest unvisited star, and then the next and the next. It worked well enough for me. It didn't turn out very spherical though

I have one of those systems! I think I may have done first footfall on it as well. I don't have it book marked though which is annoyingm. However, PRUA DRYOAE HB-W C18-5 does have an ELW in it (I call it "O'Flaherty's Residence ) as well as first disco and map. It does mean someone can now sneak in and get first feet on the one landable there

My 12Kly trip Colonia to somewhere just past Sagittarius A* for ELW hunting is 89 jumps. Lots of Neutron stars in that route.
22Kly Colonia to the bubble, so about 160 - 180 jumps and could be done at about 1 jump per minute on average at a sprint, maybe quicker. So it looks like taking between 2 and 3 hours. I know someone who claims to have done bubble to Colonia in 1 hour 29 minutes

There's no "quick" way back.
ED haven't allowed you to make 100 jumps at one go and be back in 30 seconds. Or I hope they or anybody else hasn't.
You've got to work at it.
I planned to come in my Hauler. Started to plot a journey by just heading in your direction on my Galaxy Map.
The Galaxy Map wouldn't plot a course for me and I quickly found out why: IT"S TOO BLOODY FAR !
And that was a huge recognition experience for me.
And it's the same in our world as well !

ED haven't allowed you to make 100 jumps at one go and be back in 30 seconds. Or I hope they or anybody else hasn't.
You've got to work at it.

The Galaxy Map wouldn't plot a course for me and I quickly found out why: IT"S TOO BLOODY FAR !
And that was a huge recognition experience for me.

Fleet Carriers have reduced the amount of jumps required. However, the downside is they take five minutes (?) to cool down, then another fifteen to boot up again. An experienced explorer could probably out pace an FC easily. And they cost 5bnCR - AND there's UC to handle.

In fact as I read what you saying, I can't help feeling you are describing something that you really did, and it's out there .... really .... !!!

Don't worry, my sphere started as a square cube!

In fact as I read what you saying, I can't help feeling you are describing something that you really did, and it's out there .... really .... !!!

It did, and does, feel real. The memories are just as real as any I have. It took real time. It’s part of my life now.

That's Qhain meant when he said it would take 20 minutes for Codger to make each jump and there were 44 jumps.

An experienced explorer could probably out pace an FC easily. And they cost 5bnCR - AND there's UC to handle.

UC = Upkeep costs. Mine costs me 11mCR a week even if I don't fly it anywhere. I f I do, the cost goes up depending, I think, on distance travelled. When you've already dumpd a load of cash on buying one, you'd think there'd be no upkeep required.

That's the big thing I've learned about ED: just because we stop, IT DOESN"T !

Planet number 4 in the Qiedea IZ-D d13-36 system a few thousand light years west of the bubble was my first first discoverer Earth like world. I think of it as Quain's World. The system is unremarkable other than the ELW. Nothing in the system is landable. I found it on my way out to Base Camp station and the Formadine Rift when I was doing my travel 5,000 light years from start position challenge to access the engineer Professor Palin.
This picture was taken on a return visit trying out the Anaconda for exploration.

I have first discovered 4 others since, all nearer the centre of the galaxy, and one high above the galactic plane near Tiller's Grove.

What is she so I can look her on my Ship List.
And I see much she cost on your Ship List.
And where are you, so I can mark your position on my Galaxy Map ?

Do you use Inara Wombat? I think it's the single most useful tool I have for Elite. Many of the commanders you interact with on the forum are also on Inara. And while some or all of their info can be made private, most are not and you can see their details. Their fleet, their ranks, their credits, what they've been up to. For some you can view their screenshot and journal entries. If you are not currently using this I can only recommend it.

Fully set up, it will link with your commander and import all relevant data, for example how many and which type of engineering mats you have on board, so you can view any blueprint and also see how many of the required mats you have for it.

That looks like a T10, which is what happens when you put armour, shields and more guns than is really necessary on aT9 Heavy.

I was just thinking the other day, one of the wonderful things in our world is all the water.
There's so much of it. Without it, we wouldn't be here.
Our world teems with life because of our water. We must therefore look after it whatever ever the cost.
Just because there's so much of it, doesn't mean we can neglect it and become complacent.
If I was looking for ELW's; the first thing I would look for is water.

Do you use Inara Wombat? I think it's the single most useful tool I have for Elite. Many of the commanders you interact with on the forum are also on Inara. And while some or all of their info can be made private, most are not and you can see their details. Their fleet, their ranks, their credits, what they've been up to. Actually they have included a quick return, sort of.

If you self destruct your ship you can at the rebuy screen select the free Sidewinder in one of the starter systems.
There is of course the obvious downside to this of you loosing the ship you blew up plus its modules and any unsold exploration data you had with you.
Despite this it was a not uncommon way to get back from Colonia in a hurry, the technique was known as Suicidewinder what people did was sell their data and park their ship in Colonia and buy a Sidewinder leave the station and then Self Destruct.

Well, that's sad to hear. (I've read the spoiler). However, I'd call that "cheating". Well almost.
However, it must be horrendous for a player to lose their ship in a genuine manner and then just be given a Sidewinder.
I assume you're saying the Suicidewinder would be back in the bubble.
If I was ED the replacement sidewinder would still be in Colonia.
Just too bad, that's life.
