Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

Maybe the sim allows other ships to dock, or if not dock still allows the transfer of supplies, but stops CMDRS docking or visiting.
There just is no Request Docking Permission option available for the contact. Stranger still, I see no pads, "letterbox" docking entrances or anything else that looks like a means of docking with these installations... 🤔

But still can't dock at it ?
No, you can't dock at any space installation.
However you may find a place to fly your ship into or a flat area to hover over. Some installations even have tunnels you can fly into. If you log out, then back in again, you will be at the same place.

In the video below, although it is not an installation (just an outpost) it does have some areas that you can fly into. My Python is inside one of them at the bottom. I think it is a dry dock?

Anyway a lot of space installations have things like this too that you can get into, then log out for the night.
It's not the same as an actual hanger, but for immersion purposes, it's OK.

Yes, exactly what I found. That's why I was suggesting an alternative supply option. One that doesn't require docking and excludes us from participating. ;)

NPCs don't exist except when you are present. Everything is simulated. It's part of the magic smoke and mirrors of Elite Dangerous.

So how is this Facility serviced ? When we are present, we see nobody, NPCs or otherwise ?
It isn't, not really. The game just calculates such things in the background and sets the values from that. This is called the BGS (background simulator). The entire economy is simulated, not real. That's why you get some very odd happenings, like prices being high with zero demand. Like I said, it's smoke and mirrors to make the galaxy appear to be living.

After all, they can't very well have millions and millions of NPCs going at once, your computer would not be able to handle it. So there's a small 'instance' around where you are, and NPCs, stations, planets, etc. are spawned into it when you arrive, so that it looks to you like they were always there.

You are peeking behind the curtain, so to speak, with this question.

Some "friend ;) " suggested I try and land on Mittenand Indi Hollow ............. 😏
Here's my approach.
However, the difficult part is before this: dropping out SuperCruise so as "catch" the Planet as it hurtles by ....... 😲
I "caught" it (ie. entered its Sphere of Influence (SOI) ) by employing an emergency drop from SuperCruise !
Here I'm looking for a flat place to land so as to put her down:

I'm down. (y) But that was the easy part ! :D

Well done. When I tried it I missed it repeatedly as it flew past me. I finally managed to get into its path so it ran into me and that worked.

Impressive flying there, sir :)

Now you get to watch the beauty of planetary motion as if in a time lapse, only it's not!

I caught tow and then approached from behind, but supercruise speed ran away with me on approach and crashed out of supercruise anyway. Had to go on thrusters the last 53km down.
I can't believe I didn't hear about this planet/moon before now. It's put a smile on my face :D
