Naming Planets and Re-naming Systems

It'd be cool if we would be able to rename systems to give the game some flavour. or to name planets to something like "Pandaria" or "Hoth" or whatever movie/game reference you want to make!
P.S.: My appologies, new to the forum, tried to post this in suggestions

We all agree but its blatantly open to human nature. And we all know how that goes.
I do think each cmdr could have a reference that only they see.
I'm all for topside named bookmarks that are unique to a cmdr.
Neutron stars for example.
A whole slew of stuff we can rename and see in the galmap uniquely ours.

Import of external franchise into the game is precisely why this shouldn't be a thing. I'm playing Elite, not Star Wars... PMF names are bad enough for this.

Notwithstanding that the use of system naming would absolutely be used to grief, whether that's via offensive/ targeted naming, or to confuse/ disrupt other players using the system(s).

You must hate travelling to LHS 3006 (home of Leonard Nimoy Station) and Leesti (home of the Coriolis port George Lucas), not to mention the less obvious nods in Kamitra (Hammel Terminal), HIP 51793 (Picard Gateway), Altair (Solo Orbiter), HIP 11908 (Riker's Folly), and the dozens of stations named "Kirk ____ ." Bradbury has a city, a penal colony, a barracks, a reformatory, a folly, a point, a platform, a gateway...

But I actually agree with disallowing custom system names to guard immersion. I would like a system name generator like the station name generators, though, so that colonized systems could be renamed to more easily remembered, lore-friendly labels, like the bubble systems, for the sake of immersion (there is no way colonists coming to a new system to make it home would continue to call it "Lyncis Sector YF-O b6-2"), but without opening the galaxy map to further vandalism.

Tangential rant: it legitimately bothers me to no end that there are identical Earth-like worlds named Nirvana in Aulin and Phekda, even though it is completely realistic/plausible for that to happen.

FWIW, I have no problem with FD paying homage to whatever they feel in the game. It's their world. Many of those are unobtrusive enough to be not necessarily the thing in all cases.

Players though... apparently the word "restraint" is not well understood.
