Naming ships?

Unless they're saving it for when the community gets more , then release it in a random update, so that everyone goes, "FDEV BEST." "DEV TEAM LISTENS, DEV TEAM CARES."

This. It's why we have things like no more Engineer commodities.

I didn't realize that p.is.sed is censored here on this forum..

@Iskariot

Hey, I want other players to know that my conda is named "Litany of Litany's Litanies" okay?

Frontier have dropped a few hints recently that they are actually working on ship naming. I wouldn't be surprised to see it this year yet in one of the point updates, or possible at the start of S3.

Everyone is talking about CtrlV Alien Ruins, or instant multicrew destroying IMMMURSHION, and I'm just wondering what's so hard about allowing us to name our ships.

Game keeps track of your fleet's individual loadouts and dock locations, what is so hard about adding ship names and checking against all other named ships to ensure no one can have the same name, unless one is destroyed/sold?

Why so derisive of immersion?
Aside from that, I would also love the feature of making personalised ship names. For now I've accustomed myself to naming them on inara.

Did I have a post in this thread?

Did I serve up my tired and reheated anecdote about my Clipper and get it removed again by mods or have they got bored of me and that story?
I cant tell anymore.

Ship naming is being worked on. In a live stream a while ago, i think it was Ed who mentioned it. I think he also implied that he had seen it and its looking good. To my mind they are not just going with a UI element, but also having it so that names are displayed on ships (hope so!) like decals. This is probably what is taking the time, making sure names display right, big enough to be seen, but not so big they don't fit for longer names (culture fans might be disappointed otherwise!).

Note, this bit about decal naming is just my theory, nothing confirmed by FD!

So, basically, just be patient.

In the meantime, i suggest using EDDI for that ship naming immersion. I never get bored of hearing: "R O U A slight case of overbombing is jumping to [system name]. This is your [Nth] visit to this system. This system is undergoing a boom. There might be good trading opportunities here."

Or when you return to your home system, gettting that "Welcome home CMDR".

Why is everyone on this board so scared of rude words? Don't like a players ship name, blow them out of the sky for <expletive deleted> sake, let's face it, you're only going to see it if you're all up in his junk since it'll still be the cmdr's name on the comms panel.
I think the reason they're taking so long to implement it is because they want to monetise it but unsure of how to set it up. IMHO.

Controlling ship names of 2 million players multiplied by x ships per player multiplied by x name changes per player / ship, seems to be a major challenge. To limit the mass control, the naming should be paying ?

AFAIK, ship naming will not be a paid for feature. They have never indicated that.

As for rude words, look at the game, its PEGI 13, therefore they have to do what they can to maintain that rating. Its why CMDRs with rude names are told to change them.

I think (and surely hope!), we won't have to pay for our ship names themselves. This would feel ... just wrong.

What I could imagine, however, is that there might appear additional fonts in the store (assumed that we will indeed be able to see our ship names written on the ship hull).

One would imagine the filter for blocking the multitude of filth that you know some cmdr's will spray on their fleet. Take a peek at some of the names from no mans sky or even ark and it'll give you an idea.

The filter would take longer to design than the damn feature lol.

yes and there's a bazillion ways to hide it from filters with * -= /// % etc. etc.

Anyone recall Forza and how there was a pretty strict regime re personalising cars etc. because of just this problem? We really don't want to go down the road of banning people for naming infractions but that's how it was with Forza.

It was more a joke (have you seen my name :) )

But this is the internet and expected , though reporting seems a bit extreme (or in the least a time waste for support team).

I agree with this, what Fdev does not need, is to be chasing down every complaint about names, different people find different things offensive, someone for example names their ship Trump, you can imagine where that would lead, yes FDev can ignore it, but they still have to take time to read the complaint, wasteful time.

That's easy, permit letters and numbers only, won't stop all of it, but will severely limit it.
