Naming ships?

I might name my Python "The Porker" and my ' Conda "The Big Porker"

To my mind they are not just going with a UI element, but also having it so that names are displayed on ships (hope so!) like decals. This is probably what is taking the time, making sure names display right, big enough to be seen, but not so big they don't fit for longer names (culture fans might be disappointed otherwise!).

And how it would be fitted to the variations of ship shapes and sizes. And already there are decals that are obscured by the ship kits, so how do they fit with the ship kits, and how are they tested against any new ship kits without having to auto-sort every combination to find out if it's going to be worth someone plonking real cash down on a ship kit that obscures three letters in their ships name on the side.

This is exactly why it's taking so much time to implement. It will essentially be a new decal location, but reserved for the ship's name. With 30 ships implementing such a thing takes a bit of time to do properly.
