Need help with Combat

I've done my fair share of fighting but that was years ago. Went on to explore and trading afterwards and avoided combat.

Bougt my krait mk2 now and A rated it. No engineers yet since i lack the materials.
Whats going on with the enemies now? I know that they had buffs and all but their weapons just melt my shields and hull in seconds. I use shield boosters, point defence and the usual combat setup.

I just get annihilated and what doesn't help is that every encounter turns into a tedious jousting game. Even if i run they snipe me from 8 km away and i see my hull go down 10% a second.

Do i need to engineer to have a chance to get back in?
Thanks

What enemies are you engaging?

In CZ's the enemies have engineering, best not to start getting into combat at those if you don't have engineering too imho. RES, compromised nav beacons and pirate hunting enemies are a lot less uber.

Also wierd you had enemies able to shoot you from 8 km away....long range is not something I've noticed on the foes even in CZs.

Yes, where you are choosing to do combat, what you are up against, and the build you are using would all be helpful.

I'd recommend dropping in to a High RES. The enemies are not as strong as a CZ, and you have cops to help out.

CNBs are my favorite places to hunt these days (high level enemies for rank and good mats). I built a Krait II as a combat scavenger and the CNBs are great for this. But you don't have help in a CNB (or a Haz RES) so best to stay away until you've got your groove back on.

Nah was in solo and a resurce extraction site. The enemies i engage are mixed. Usually dangerous or under. Annies, pythons down to adders. The one that sniped me was a ASP explorer...

I'm not sure the Krait is the best choice for non-engineered PvE survivability. Its weak on shields and hull. You might last longer in the FDL.
I haven't tried comparing them on coriolis, but I guess that with guardian shield reinforcements I could match FDL's shields. Krait can perma-boost with 2 pips and I can't stand that window bar in FDL, plus it requires constant pip management.

Quick solution ... buy better armor and then (slower solution) engineer it.

Slow solution .... do the Guardian mini-game and qualify for module and hull reinforcement and shield reinforcement ..... or engineer shields, armor and anything else while you are at it. (You don't have to go all the way to Level 5 engineering, Level 3 is quite enough except for a start.)

I use an engineered krait mk2 in HAZRES and don't have problems with enemies. They are tough, but not so tough. Perfectly doable.
Had to see a video of your fight to tell.

That is an option (which I have used myself) but now you have a krait with no HRP and even weaker hull than before.

While you've not engineered would you mind posting your build here via Coriolis or EDShipyard? That would provide some raw material to work with.

Since you're just getting back into combat the Krait II might not be optimal. Something like a Vulture would be a better choice for learning. Nimble, versatile, and more than capable of holding its own unengineered. It's also got a meager rebuy.

If engineering not an option right now, then at least upgrade your armour and fill up with HRPs and at least one MRP.

The challenge here is no engineering.

No. Engineering is a crutch.

I mean, whenever a new ship comes around, i first give it a non-engineered testrun. I go against all sorts of things, including elite anacondas in RES. I yet have to loose a ship that way. So yes, of course heavy engineering is an crazy advantage. +700% defense is easily reached, on some ships even more. That's utterly insane, but that's how it is. It sure works around the issue of learning to fly, but it doesn't solve it.

So yea. I would say, drop us a video, then we can see what's actually going wrong. (Warning though, some people will drop bad comments. :( )

I have only engineered my dbx for range. I have no idea about the guardian engineering stuff and what to do to get them. When i fly i try to stay behind or under the target wich usually results in the above mentioned jousting.

@Sylow - Your response can be boiled down to "git gud", there are other steps he can take without the engineers which have been suggested. i.e. choose a better ship while in the learning curve.

Post your build (via coriolis so I can actually read it lol), and we’ll tell you if/why it needs work.

Easier to start from there.

A Krait, even unmodded can be pretty potent in the hazres with the right setup.

Edit: Even basic engineering can improve your ship significantly. I’d gather some basic materials and head over to farseer sometime, see what she can do besides FSD mods. You might be surprised.
