Horizons Need outfitting guide/tutorial, I guess

Well, I thought I had sussed out the intricacies of outfitting but it seems not. Looking for a step-up ship from my semi-modded Cobra MKIII, I chose the Federal Dropship for its vastly greater Optional Internal slots and improved hardpoint count, plus other minor plusses. Using INARA I drafted the loadout plans, chose a system to provide all the upgrades, etc. The only real hitch I met is that when I try to put my stored 5D Fighter Hangar on board, it does not work. The FDS is multicrew, and has the Class 5 Internal Compartment necessary, but no go. I used a Keelback for a time, which is why I had the Fighter Hangar stored. It also used a Class 5 slot, so why not the FDS? It seems a natural choice. One would think that if there's a proper slot for it, you can drop the Hangar in any ship.

Is there some documentation about such arcane limitations? I looked at this site's section on Elite Ships but it's mostly all build comparisons, no info about the whys and wherefores of loadout design.
 
The ship descriptions tell you which ones can host a SLF. From memory; Keelback, Gunship, Beluga, Anaconda, Cutter, Corvette, T-9.
 
Yep, I figured that out in hindsight. Seems it could be put in the specs/features listing more specifically, as is done with Multi-crew capability, so it won't be missed (I tend to gloss over the descriptions and go to the specs) or wondered about. But there were other aspects of the Optional slots that aren't mentioned, in terms of being limited to "military" upgrades. I was able to work around that, but if there's a source that explains these and other potential "gotchas" it'd help planning loadouts and upgrades more efficiently.
