Neutron Router and Unexplored Systems

I'm using the spansh.co.uk neutron plotter. It tells me to go via Dryae Flyoae OT-G d11-277. Now I understand that it is drawing on a database of stars submitted by players, using something like EDMC or EDDiscovery. So how come that system is unscanned? Does it just mean that someone jumped into it and straight out without honking and circle scanning it, but they were running a data submitter? Or could it have got into the database some other way?

Or maybe they never sold their carto data... rest in peace, fellow astrocartographer! o7

Are you confusing unscanned with unscanned 'by you'?
Only systems visited by CMDRs are added 3rd party databases.
But it's also possible they never scanned the system they visited.

If someone plots a route this route is saved to a file on that users hard drive. Tools like EDDiscovery and EDMC (and others) submit those routes to EDDN. So every EDDN listener gets those route info too, they contain all systems in that route, their coordinates and their main star class. Spansh adds those route systems to his system and therefor is able to use those systems in his plotter.
As there are many plotted routes that are never fully followed thousands of undiscovered systems end up in Spansh' router.

First, it's untagged instead. Were the stars in the system tagged, or were there no tags on them either? If they were tagged, then the submitter has sold their data already, so they didn't bother to FSS any of the bodies. If the stars weren't tagged, then they haven't sold the data yet. But yes, the journal info was uploaded by them running a submitter that did so. Third-party sites rely on data sent in by players, they can't get it from elsewhere.

Thanks. So I don't need to fly into a system in order to add it to the database? If I just want to get a neutron star into the spansh.co.uk neutron plotter, all I need to do is plot a route to it, whilst running EDDiscovery?

Yes.

Also, keep in mind that if the system was added to the database before 3.3 (when FSS was added) it is entirely possible the cmdr didnt bothered to scan not even the main star
Post 3.3, when FSS was added in game, meant that all bodies within 30LS will get automatically scanned (no honk needed) while before that the bodies were scanned only IF the cmdr targeted the body and flew in its general direction.

...and I can now see that the neutron stars that were not in spansh.co.uk's router, that I only plotted a route to, are now in.

Nowadays a star will be 'first discovered' instantly

Long time ago you had to scan the star manually. So no discovery if you hopped on; but it would end up in ESDM

Keep on finding those neutrons!
