That we got more participants this time around does let me make the following conclusions:
a. There are still a lot of people interested in PZ and in more animals in general, which underlines the huge potential of this game, even after 2 years.
b. You made such a good work with the Metalist, that the news is widespread now.
c. The new CMs are making a wonderful job with engaging new people in the forums.

Anyone else always finding new favourites through other peoples list and then nervously checking if they are high up on the META? Coatis, Porcupines... How have we survived so long without them?
Honestly, I feel it is "smaller species" time ever since the Fennec and the Meerkat broke the pattern.
Hey, just curious on this. I notice that Leopard seems to be a meta-category (Persian, African, or Amur) but you're making separate entries for different species of other animals like tree-kangaroos, wallabies, armadillos, gibbons (though I can also understand not necessarily including the Lar Gibbon and the Siaming in the same banner). I'm just curious exactly how you're making the decision on what animals to group or not group by species.

Ah, that makes sense. I might, for my own purposes make a broader list. Like I don't specifically care what tree-kangaroo we get, as long as we get one.

Following this thread from the beginning, but I had never submitted my wishlist
To contribute to make a more competitive list, I haven't chosen animals which are already in the top 15 or have less than 5 votes, and skipped exhibit animals (like giant salamander, as they have their own meta-wishlist topic):
Included Arapaima but really the list is more like:
1. ANY FISH
2. FLYING BIRD
3. CLIMBING RODENT
4. WATERFOWL
I think about it from a modding perspective of animations we're currently missing. Quite candidly, if Frontier is unwilling or unable to include these features (for whatever reason they may have!), then I think it isn't unreasonable to wish for the tools that would allow the modding community to fill in the gaps! Most zoos I've been to feature at least some aquatic exhibits and several avian residents -- I feel the game simply won't be complete without representation of those groups. My great fear is that a theoretical Planet Zoo 2 will start over from scratch without the inclusion of all the original game featured... I'm not opposed to a sequel, but only if that sequel is a worthwhile upgrade from all the wonderful things the current game has to offer.

After roughly half a year, and following the requests made by numerous forum users, I'm setting up this thread in order to start another 'Essential animals meta-wishlist' where I record users' animals wishlists and put them all together on a meta-wishlist. Given that we've gotten 3 DLCs since I started the previous thread; this time around I ask you all to please post a list of just 20 habitat animals.
The more people participating, the bigger the sample size will be so better conclusions can be drawn. I’m writting down every user who posts their list in order to avoid having repetitions. I intend to keep this updated as much as I can. Last update: 14th October, 2021
The spirit and basic rules of the thread will be similar to those of the first one. Which means:
For the sake of keeping the same wishlist structure, I ask you to post your 20 essential habitat animals that you’d like to see in the game. Lists with anything above 20 animals will be discarded.
Exhibit animals will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Exhibit animals include arthropods, amphibians, small reptiles (< iguanas), small fish and mouse-size mammals.
Flying birds and bats usually housed in aviaries will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Flying aviary birds include birds of prey, parrots, Columbiformes (pigeons), Passeriformes (small birds), Charadriiformes (gulls) and so on. Mainly ground-dwelling or semi-aquatic birds (mainly Waterfowl, Galliformes, Ratites, Pelecaniformes, Penguins, etc.) will be added to the list.
Extinct species will not be considered.
As a general rule of thumb, animal species is the preferred category for animal submissions. Subspecies from already in-game animals are also accepted. Subspecies from animals that are not in-game will automatically be allocated to the superior species category. Specific domestic animals breeds are also accepted.
To simplify data collection, those answers that include several species in one slot (eg.: 1. Any species of sloth) will be automatically treated as a single animal and added to the most requested species inside that generic animal group (eg. in this case: Brown-Throated Three-Toed Sloth). This obviously leads to an underestimation of the total key requested animals.
As you can see, a total of 370 animals have been considered 'essential' by at least one forum user.
TL;DR: Post your 20 essential habitat animals wishlist here. I will record each wishlist and add it to the Meta-list. Aviary and exhibit animals won’t be taken into consideration.

Great list! Happy to see the Tayra made another list, too! I think they're an animal a lot of people just aren't familiar with, but once you've seen them, how can you not want them in the game.
Yeah exactly, I used to volunteer at wildlife park (I only stopped because they made me stop for a very unfair reason) and they got one in. That’s how I know about them. They bassically look like big ferrets to me)
