New 2024 Livestream series!

So not direct base-building, but building bases in space was something I did say, and that's good enough for me right now. Though I will say the park editing mechanics of Planet Coaster 2 made me a bit envious. The ability to build roads and stuff in Elite would be pretty awesome IMO. Cobra Mk V looks great too. I think the idea that PPV2 is undermined by colonization might be a bit premature, it's possible that PPV2 was built around colonization, not the other way around..

The original pace was probably only about 20 years for that.
With or without player resistance? Must admit I don't quite recall the figures accurately.

... and I do wonder how this might end up working for BGS and such purposes, but the thought of "What, if anything, might this have to do with Thargoids" also occurred to me.

On the original curve? The effect of players resisting 5-10 systems out of ~80 a week was probably less of a source of error than not having bothered to model how the effects of the various maelstroms merging would affect their surface and therefore capture rate of the remaining systems.

Will there be conquest? Wars? Can you take over other players' systems?
The colonisation is "dovetailed with" PP 2.0 so that sort of implies that at some point in the colonisation process you gonna have to pick a faction...

If I were designing it I'd have a bit of maritime law in there so there was an "establishing" phase where shootin' shiz up in a half-built colony was an intergalactic crime, but once it's got to some sort of point, it's a system like any other low-population system.

Also, can I just say, WOW. Looks like I'm stuck with this goddam game for another decade.

colonising a planet could be fun, of course the proof in the pudding etc etc etc.

a bit of a shame we can't go out into the deep black and just pick a planet. years ago I flagged a few interesting systems with a view.to one day colonising them... but I guess that won't be possible with this system as they are miles out!.

.
And, so much for the rumored denser atmosphere/weather effects. Or NPC crew on the cockpit (a desire of mine).
as much as FD in the past have over egged some features, this assumption was on you I am afraid.
FD made no such intimations and multiple people warned that some appeared to be going a little off the deep end & were setting themselves up for disappointment.
imo what they announced today was more new content for the game since Oddy launched.
it's not full DLC levels of content and i fear we will never see that again in ED. but it's something ateast.

At the end of the stream they showed some partial views of the Cobra V cockpit and they had a shot facing back so you could see the door to the rest of the ship and I was thinking OH GOD DON'T GIVE THE FORUM IDEAS
Too late there was enough material in the stream for the code breakers in the forum to extract any “promise” they wanted. So you can be sure that some are already drooling over the open only ship interiors that will be coming soon(tm)

They did say you could daisy chain your colonised systems once they were big enough.

A PP2 expansion chain requires either a 20LY range (and one step per two weeks) or a 30LY range (and one step per three weeks). Either way the process goes about 10LY a week at maximum speed, so would take over 2200 weeks (42 years) to reach Colonia ...

I had this image of competing expansion chains heading towards Colonia with fortified & even stronghold systems embedded in the chains.

Just the thought of a stronghold fleet carrier force that far away from the Bubble gave me the (good) chills.

I already wrote about bases a week ago and I repeat myself. Why do you think that participation in Colonization and Colonizer are the same thing? (My question was about building bases, why did people think that they would build THEIR bases?)

People support Player Minor Factions, that's why.
Do you think the colonised systems won't use the BGS?

Is that the same for Open-only BGS and Open-only Powerplay? Certain Twitch Streamers have been frequently and loudly saying that is on its way imminently (or should be).

I'm not worried right now, let's say...
Building form both ends, as Colonia will be able to build towards the Bubble...

Now what would set things off would be power 'seed' ships- say a colony version of a Powerplay FC group.....
I imagine the powers having areas (or volumes, since it's three-dimensional space) of "territory" was originally to do with being modelled on ancient land empires who needed to have lines of control and orders/commands passing back and forth. It didn't really make sense in a galaxy of instant FTL communication, especially with fast jump speeds even for courier ships carrying encrypted data.

So just as the original Colonia Expansion Initiative waves of CGs allowed Player Minor Factions to create individual starports and take over small base assets in their systems, there's probably no reason a Power couldn't do similar. Whether it would require as much coordinated player effort (which was enormous for the CEI waves) and how opposition by other Powers' players would affect things... who knows? Presumably since Frontier have been working on this since the start of the year, they've already factored in such things...
