I have just returned to the game after a long time away and I notice quite a bit of change. When I scan ships I sometimes get 'blue' messages on the top right monitor saying things such as 'Aberrant Shield Patterns' or 'Decoded Emissions data' which is then stored in my log. Is this information of any value (in any way). Also after destroying ships, as well as cargo there is now material such as focus crystals. Is this material of any use, saleable or otherwise?
Engineer materials, only useful if you have Horizons.
If you use the right popup panel, and select the Inventory tab, you can see the materials being stored there. Some are Data, others like the solid objects from ship wrecks are Materials, which would appear if you scooped them up.
They take no ship space. They can be "jettisoned"- but then seem to vaporize. They cannot be traded or sold. Without the Horizons expansion, they can be ignored.
