General / Off-Topic New movie based FD game in development... guess the franchise!

thinking about the work done with ''the outsider''

i will be not surprise to find out that the movie is 'blade runner' and the game is 'the outsider' re-make with that title.

:D

Here's a list of movie releases in 2018 http://www.imdb.com/search/title?yea...ease_date,desc

So, let's narrow the list down a bit.
First let's remove anything not "global renown", i.e. anything new(ish). That leaves us with ...

Deadpool 2
X Men Supernova
Kung Fury II: The Movie
Iron Sky: The Coming Race
Death Race: Anarchy
Goosebumps 2
Jay And Silent Bob Reboot
Creed II
Power Rangers 2
Iron Sky: The Ark
Avengers: Infinity War
Black Panther
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2
Tomb Raider
The Predator
Pacific Rim Uprising
Ocean's Eight
Ready Player One
Aquaman
M:I 6
Jurassic World Sequel
Incredibles 2

The list goes on, but those are the most notable. It is very probable I've missed off what film it is, but in that list, I think we can remove anything that will be developed by another games studio. Disney for example have their own games studio, so anything they own (and that is a lot of stuff) is probably not Frontier's 2018 release. That leaves us with ...

Kung Fury II: The Movie
Iron Sky: The Coming Race
Death Race: Anarchy
Goosebumps 2
Power Rangers 2
Iron Sky: The Ark
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2
The Predator
Pacific Rim Uprising
Ready Player One
M:I 6
Jurassic World Sequel

I also removed anything I don't think will be made into a game.

My best guess is Frontier are going to do the game version of Ready Player One. It's a film of a popular book. It's not had a game made of it yet. And Frontier love their sci-fi.

I thought it was pretty well decided (speculatively, of course) it was going to be a Harry Potter game, no?

Tomb Raider?

Tomb Raider was a rip off of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" so a Tomb Raider game would be a game of a film of a game of a film?

Think about this, FD like to use their same engine to support each of their other games.

Elite Dangerous - Space Sim, Flight Model, Driving Model

Planet Coaster - Crowd Tech (Can be used in Cities in Elite)

What's left? ... Jungles, big game hunting, FPS, SPACE LEGS

I still think it's going to be Jurrasic Park (or Harry Potter with "Fantastic Beasts").

Just imagine... first person VR, you're walking through a forest with a shotgun, you hear growling. It's a horror survival game!

Think Alien Isolation, but with velociraptors!

The work from this can then go on to make big game hunting & jungle FPS tech for Elite Dangerous.

Oh well, if you all decided already, then that must be it ... I was thinking that anything already made into a game would not be Frontier's 2018 release, and there are Harry Potter games. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter#Games

Again, already owned by Square Enix and the Tomb Raider games are made by Crystal Dynamics https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Dynamics

There's a Predator film coming out next year. But there has already been games of Predator (I remember playing one on the Atari Jaguar)

My god I would love a good Predator game... But I can't see FD doing it, they don't strike me as "18 rated" developers...

Nah, was just suggesting why this thread died in February. Oh, well...speculation is my favorite activity :D

There is no stopping making more Potter games. The franchise is a veritable gold mine.

Beyond my wildest dreams would be Frontier getting the rights to make a Tie Fighter/X-Wing game...though I'd say it is a zero chance EA would loosen their grip on that IP.

The reason I discounted HP games is because if there are already games of that franchise, it'd be harder for a developer to make a new game that will be compared to something. So I am guessing that Frontier's 2018 game of a "globally renown" film will be something not yet made into a game.

I am almost certainly wrong, and only Frontier know for sure.

Exactly, the last Jurrasic Park game (discounting the stupid Mobile game) was 2003.

I'm gonna hunt me some T-Rex!!

Just thinking while typing...

Imagine FD does a huge island, with dynamic weather, storms & winds, all sorts.

It has a "Park" region, and wildlands.

It uses the characters created with "Holo-Me" to drive a story.

You get a rover, using the mechanics of the SRV.

You get newly defined FPS mechanics for your Shotgun/Sniper.

You have limited resources, maybe a couple of bandages.

You have limited ammo, you need to be smart.

You need to traverse the island, saving people where you can, surviving against dinosaurs but also appreciating the peaceful herbivores.

ALL of this can be used to push Space Legs in Elite Dangerous, all while making an awesome game within itself.

My top 2 are;

Jurassic Park, no idea on game type, whether it's park building or survival fps or whatever.
Independence Day, probably a sci-fi shooter, with space stuff.

I doubt it'll be Alien, or Star Trek. I think Sega currently own the rights to Alien games??

Looking forward to the reveal.

But if it's Harry Potter, I'm actually going to hurt someone. Lol

Edit:

If it is Jurassic Park, survival horror, it'll be 20 years next year since the last one.

Trespasser .

I still laughter at how bad the controls were. And i never finished it. Mainly because i couldn't get he damn gun to point the right way.

I think "Enduring movie franchise" trims a few contenders from your list. For example "Iron Sky"? Nope, I don't think so.

This "Enduring" phrase actually convinces me more that it's Jurrasic Park, not Harry Potter.

Jurrasic Park - 1993

Harry Potter and the Philosphers Stone - 2001

In 2018 Jurrasic Park will have been going 25 years! That's more of a definition of enduring than HP :)

That is a good point. The only reason I didn't remove Iron Sky from my list is because I couldn't find any reason to. I was also going by the phrase "global renown".
