General / Off-Topic New movie based FD game in development... guess the franchise!

Assuming the context is film franchise, then I'd expect at least 2 films (can't exactly have a franchise with 1) and it has to have been in the public consciousness for a while (Tron while interesting never got a sequel until decades later and it was quickly forgotten for example).

Errr, well, not really ... "enduring" and "franchise" have definite meanings. Literally .. McDonalds is an enduring franchise. In the film world I really don't think you could argue that James Bond, for example, is not an enduring franchise. Conversley, I think you're going to have a hard time arguing that Ready Player One is an enduring franchise. Like I say, great book ... just doesn't fit the brief.

I think we're all missing something. I think we've all read the article and immediately jumped on Frontier doing a film franchise. I know I did. But that is not what the article says. The article says it will be "based on an enduring film franchise of global reknown". It isn't saying that Frontier are doing a film franchise, but their next IP is based on a film franchise. That's the same as saying they aren't doing a Jurassic Park game, but are actually doing a game with dinosaurs in it. (if it's based on Jurassic Park).

Remember, Frontier's new philosophy is to 100% own their products, and have creative control, not make something for someone else and be dictated to.

All the other IPs mentioned have been leased by the majors. I think FD would want to start fresh.

I still think it will be Bladerunner or Dune.

Both these SF IPs have new movies coming out in the near future, FD would want the cross-promotion and visibility to help their new release.

You heard it from me first. :p

Mate , not sure you are correct there. It does state in the original article that they have licensed from a major movie studio. Why would they do that and then not use said license.

Also regarding your previous response film franchise rights change hands all the time. There have been a lot of JP games over the years from lots of different studios. Doesn't stop Frontier if the have got the licence.

I don't think that makes sense at all. If they weren't actually licensing the rights to a film or film series, and instead were making something completely original but "inspired by," then they wouldn't cop to it at all. They wouldn't mention that they were being inspired by something else because that would diminish whatever new brand they are trying to build, and potentially open up themselves to lawsuits.

The Minions, but every engineer will require 50 bananas and only 40 will exist in the game universe.
