New path is starting out as a ramp

I'm starting a brand new path with no angle snap because I want it to be flat but as I start to make it longer it is going up on a ramp. Can anyone help with this please? I do not understand why it is doing this. Does anyone have any ideas please? Thanks!

Without a screen shot, is your land flat or are you on a slope?

If you are on a slope then the path may well start on a ramp.

I would suggest that you flatten the land around the path and try again.

Hold mouse button and pull mouse towards you, it will lower the path to the same level or lower.
