New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

One of my issues with the CM statements acknowledging there are bugs in the planet tech is - they haven't said which things are bugs. Do they mean stuff like the clearly visible copy/paste replication we're seeing? Do they mean the obvious and rather silly height-mappy nature of some of the mountain formations? Do they mean the restricted height of the canyons we've discovered thus far? Or do they just mean the invisible rocks and poor LOD? We just don't know unfortunately.
My hope is "all of the above"...

I've been doing some 'stuff' in a bubble system which has a war going on with no PMFs involved, so getting my weekly Arx sorted :ROFLMAO:
A couple of bodies I'm visiting are 'interesting' in terrain, in comparison to the 'mainly flattish' but I have the feeling if they were landable in Horizons they would be 'very interesting'.

There are some lovely Odyssey bodies, anyone who follows the screenshot thread couldn't deny it, but the few I've seen with potential for extremes just don't have them.

All players like myself would like is a simple answer, is this copy/paste tile method going to remain in the game? Or will fully randomised planets make a return? I don't think it's much to ask. I'll keep an eye on this thread in the hope a developer finally answers at some point.
Hey, don't dare question the New Era of open communications from Fdev. The thread is only 150 + pages long...

Yes we do know out of experiences with this company.
They 'll fix the simple cheap ones, rest is working as intended, enjoy the white knights dance of thankfulness.

I wonder if one of their fixes will be for people using pejoratives on the forum for someone else they do not always agree with.

Oh, sorry. That one is broken beyond repair.

"Minor" correction:
There is one thing that, honestly, burns my eyes both in this thread title and quite a few of your posts - there is close to nothing "random" in ED universe, with Horizons or Odyssey. The random things could not be exactly repeated/replicated - so only "random" artifacts one can encounter are always instance/commander depended. All the rest is calculated/created/placed either mathematically, either by hand. (no, it's not even about "true"/"pseudo" random)
Besides, sometimes I think it's good to remind that "1:1 scale universe" - available for exploration - has been released 1 year before Horizons, and still there in Odyssey. Yeah, Beagle Point has been "discovered" before any landing became possible. I mean - landable - planetary surface generation algorithms are not the whole universe.

Indeed. The word you are searching for is "deterministic", which is the exact opposite of random :)

Indeed, far shorter than the Open/Groups/Solo juggerthreads of yesteryear!
What, you mean the Hotel California threads of the golden age? They sure were something else, but they still pop up on occasion. A shadow of their former selves, but still.

On the other hand, let's get back to the topic of this thread, because it IS an important one and I don't want to derail it.

Perhaps those other threads didn't have a group of people deliberately trying to make the topic at hand more confusing and complicated than it really is. Horizons didn't rely as much as Odyssey does on repeated hand-made tiles, it was more maths-based, it's that simple really. So you and the others take pleasure in saying this thread is not as big/important as some other threads, 'rookie numbers' etc, and i guess our concerns are likewise 'not important', fine, but it probably also means less people are playing and caring. Steam review 31%, is something you cannot blow smoke over. I for one won't be buying any more Frontier products after a long time using and paying for their services, neither am i that concerned anymore, as there's plenty of other fish in the sea.

The above link is just one thing that is wrong with Odyssey, and it's rubbish.

Been exploring since Odyssey launched, so obviously not broke. /thread 🤪
