New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

Isn't it just that one of the textures is repeating too often? Nobody needs to be making public statements on the 10 o'clock news about it.

Well, without being condescending... did you even bothered to look at the screenshots? Is that the same template?

No, no it isn't.

No, no one is asking to make public statements or anything just AS I SAID take a part in a discussion where things are facts and not hopes.

Strawman me again and I'll just block you.

...

Why don't they at least acknowledge the faulty tech? Considering this is a beta, is it that hard to reassure us simply with words?
beacuse they dont fance being called liars for presenting something others already made up there mind about? :D

yeah, they are being called liars a lot, always been so... hell i support there silence when ppl acting they way they do, this forum is a disgrace, less usuable than the game for sure (unless u have negative stuff to vent i guess)

:(

Hardly just "one of the textures" is it. If you read the thread you will see people highlighting how very messed up the new tech is.
There are all sorts of minor issues with it but people need to keep their hair on. You'd think we were talking about police corruption or something. Most of it looks amazing.

I think there are textures that should be fading out sooner and textures that should be fading in sooner and I think some of the mountains look awful (although I didn't notice any of those today -- don't know if there's been a change).

And I was bumping into invisible boulders today, which was a new thing.

It's all about expectations..

People expected Horizons +
Instead they got something which is different, and is good at some points but on others, and for some playerbases (racers, explorers, hooners...) Is a big degradation.

I was never an explorer in this game - but for them - the star formula if you will - had been revealed, no mystery anymore, and no point to play as they did.

Can't say I don't understand that.

In a way we are. Saying you are selling an upgraded engine while in fact it is downgraded* is sort of a scam.

Most of it does NOT look amazing. Most planets are full of flat areas with boring, unnatural uncanny valley geometry and textures with zero bump-mapping. Atmospheres are nothing more than a light diffusion script with no volumetric value. Shadows are unnatural and look like 10+ year old engine effect. Lighting of planets is all wrong and does not add up with light pollution at all.

There is being tolerant and there is being oblivious/obtuse. It's not "arbitrary aesthetics". Look at the bloody paintjobs. Some of them were decimated by messed up contrast/luminosity values.

You want to see actual planet atmospheres? Here, they WERE in the game and they were REMOVED:

Tell me, how that volumetric density stands up to what we have now? 144 FPS then whit ease as well.

It's miles better than the Odyssey engine but has a load of issues that need fixing. But they're not plotting against us.

I'm assuming you mean Horizons. No, it isn't at all. How do you like the new base flattening? Looks really natural? How do you find the night vision? How to you like contrast balance on planets?

but has a load of issues that need fixing

Ok, so, my time to be obtuse. How do you know EXACTLY what it is? Why should I take your guess over facts presented in the thread?

But they're not plotting against us.

If they are plotting to release a buggy, unfinished mess in the just right time to massage financial report figures and because they need to work out performance before releasing on consoles, then YES in quite a direct wat they ARE plotting against PC players. Not everyone at FDev of course, only decision makers.

TBH I was under the impression that repeating stuff in random orders is kinda how most procedural generation works - maybe in Horizons the planets just looked so dull no-one ever noticed.

No. I listen to a stream explaining this. From what I understood - there were no hand made textures to randomize. It was algorithm (math) based generation and you cannot predict how your next planet will look like.

Now you have a collection of textures (..and maybe a collection of terrain forms?) Being reorganized randomly...this does not fair well with a galaxy hosting billions of stars.

Well I think it looks better. And I’m going back to making first discoveries while everybody else is moaning!

Are you playing the game, landing on the new planets, seeing it for yourself? Just wondering.

Right - so then from that rational it seems an easy fix; just a problem with the algorthm.

hardly worth 63 pages of nerdrage circlejerking

I don’t think procedural generation is the answer for everything. With some things textures are maybe gonna look better. They just need lots of them blended in interesting ways.

The strange thing is that the textures people are pointing out seem so non-descript I don’t understand why they’re bothering to use them! I wonder if they are procedurally generated but where they aren’t changing the seed.

I wish.

If you fully understand the above, it really mean that there is no easy fix.

They used a limited amount of assets in an almost endless galaxy. Those assets will repeat and repeat a lot.

One might ask why didn't they keep the old method of terrain generation but improve the textures like they did. Some people say they can.

I doubt it. I don't know why but I have strong feeling there was a specific technical reasons why they could not.

You don't just randomly throw a whole system out the window for no obvious reason. You just don't. Why do double work if you can do none?

To make everything they wanted to do with Edo they had to take the path of redoing everything with planets generation.

They thought that if they make enough assets it will not show. I think that at some point they also understood that it's a problem. But it was too late. That's why you have a thread with 63 pages and 1k replies.

Healing beams are even an easier fix. Just remove the F-ing thing.

But 5 years of "nerdrage circlejerking" and they are still in the game, still broken. Mechanics are added in game to workaround (like reverb lasers for stations) and the bloody things are still in the game!

BUT it is so easy to insult people from the high horse.

Aye, but then I'm not the one with my face in mud.

And it's a pony, not a horse.
