New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

I hazard a guess: They postponed the console release for half a year knowing, that the console stores would not be so kind like Steam? CP anyone?

Almost there. They've released PC client early to get some profit to further finance the actual development before releasing for Sony and Microsoft, this way they make their financial report look better and then balance the cost out next year due to much better DLC reception on consoles thus much better profit.

So not only we are testing it for free but we are paying them to actually develop it to the end. As in Early Access but not really.

Now we're talking.

The minimum requirement for EDO is barely enough for the consoles. Might be too high even. They will not pass certification without optimization.
That's as far as they'll work it, and we all know how awful the console editions can be for performance in places as is. Frontier have 100's of staff in their employ and are worth over 1 billion. How is it they act like they work from a shed with 3 hairy crumpets stuck bashing bums together whilst typing with their teeth?

Even on the danger that someone here calls me a white knight, but as a seasoned Elite player, we KNOW we are perpetual beta testers...

No, I don't condone that and I would never do it this way, but that we didn't know before is not exactly true.

True that,
This is an example why I wrote "I consider Elite is an endlessly WIP game and labels (alpha, beta, final) are irrelevant." or something similar ;) a few posts ago.

Let's stop discussing this here, if there is interest, we can open a "venting and bickering" thread, but this here is about the new planetary tech and it's problems.

Edit: Sorry @all for helping derailing
I'm not trying to discuss this anyway. You said I was wrong about saying Fdev were worth 1 billion. Moving along.

The silence from Frontier on the planet tech...

And the increasing number of pages on planet tech threads...

it just feels like this

Why don't they at least acknowledge the faulty tech? Considering this is a beta, is it that hard to reassure us simply with words?

I really hope that some upcoming live stream will feature Dr. Kay Ross again to actually speak to us about what and how went wrong, is this intended, is this a bug or a glitch.

She was very eager to step in before release to speak about how amazing it is, it would only be fair to do that when it turned out it isn't. And I don;t mean for flame, insults or attacks - but actual, honest discussion. As if anyone should knew how it was SUPPOSED to look, it would be her.

And if it DOES suppose to look like this, how can we NOT have it implemented into Horizons in 6 months as I would rather sit in Space Engine for my planetary exploration fix.

At this point this is their main focus...MVP stabilize, optimize.

There will be no near future fix for the issue on this thread so it seems.

I don't expect there will be any changes to the planet tech until the console release, if any even then. Frontier designed it, this is how they wanted it, frack they even hyped it up! The repeating textures are not a bug, I fear this is by design.

At best the amount of complaints might garner some improvements by console release time, if we are lucky. More likely this is how planets will remain from here on out though, at least until they alter the planet tech again to add more types of landables.

Say hello to the current state of exploration in Elite Dangerous Odyssey.
