New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

Bravo! You found a bug!
An excellent counter to something with a completely different topic.

You found duplicate patterns. Congratulations.
Nah, it's part of the general topic set of this thread, just not the CURRENT focus.

But in this form it's (most certainly) a BUG and not a feature and as such counting it towards "killing of exploration" should be invalidated when/if fixed.

Thank you! I am so glad that you agree that all terrain is tiling/repeating/no procedural/random.

And what have voices in your head answered?
Because it couldn't possibly be directed to any of us, I see no reference points.

Anyway, try to confirm the claim how repeating terrain features are AFTER planetary glide.
To my surprise there are no "deja vu" moments when you get closer to ground.

How it exactly works, why even tiles that SEEM to be identical from larger distance turned out to be NOT so on close range - it's yet to be found out.

Oooh, a giant version of THAT SAME RIDGE AGAIN!
If you have seen a copy and made a shot, leave it on the issue tracker!

And if you two quoted the main post and not as an answer about the height of mountains, it would have been fitting.
I don't really get why people are so antagonizing here.

The duplicate stuff is real. We all know it. Nobody likes it.

Doesn't mean there's not other stuff to talk about.

BTW, there is some repetition that seems to be missed by "your" team:
  • somebody shows screenshots / video on subject1 (e.g. atmospheric effects)
  • somebody answers: this just confirms problem with subject2 (e.g. planetary height), that has problem1 (e.g. "no terrain features higher then 1km)
  • but this was about subject1 (e.g. atmospheric effects). here are examples of feature1 that invalidate your claim about problem1 (e.g. terrain features many times higher then 1km)
.
.
.

- and in this moment usually cavalry rushes in blindly, missing the point, naturally:

ARRRHGGG!!! feature1 IS A COPY PASTE!!! I WON'T SHOW YOU SCREENSHOTS TO PROVE THIS, BUT IT'S A FACT!!!!111

How about this pattern, lovely, isn't it?

Sign o' the times, sadly.

Nah, people always liked to "team up" and just absorb complete "knowledge-sets" in "ready-to-consume" form.
And every team needs an opponent, so exaggeration of contentious points is natural.

Thinking for yourself is too tiresome and being skeptic even to your own (or better: especially, as skepticism to points of view that differ from yours comes naturally) opinions and observation makes your life harder then it has to be.
So why bother?

Types, probably for the umpteenth time it has been typed on these forums post launch, that showing an example where the new terrain generation works, is NOT a denial that it's ever broken.
If any patch of land is known to repeat itself, even if it's only just once per planet, then exploration is dead to me, and so is Elite itself by extension, because exploration was my favourite activity. For me personally, Odyssey has been a very bad trade-off, the loss of uniquely created planets as were in Horizons, for a shooter which i had a few goes at and never wanted to try again, it was that boring. I'm still in shock at what Odyseey is, and what it means for my involvement with the game after all these years, for me at least it's the end of my journey.

Realizes immediately that it's a waste of effort.
On the other hand, posting only pics where it works (nobody denying that) in a thread which deals specifically with parts where it not works is kind of missing the point too. :)

Fighting information filter bubbles is more important then any label on any thread :sneaky:
Focusing on only one side of any story is toxic.
