OK, so I pledged to a power. Now, I went to a RES and saw a clean, but hostile PP NPC. I engaged and picked up a small bounty.

Was under the impression that I could engage other PP targets with impunity. Not so?

That's a good question. I know they changed NPC behavior so that NPCs of an opposing PP faction won't engage against you unless you are actively participating in PP activities. Surely this isn't the case with CMDR vs CMDR does it?

Sorry, Jaiotu - I misspoke... It was an NPC. Regardless. In some tutorial I watched, impunity was specifically stated, though the video was old.

Which power did you pledge to, and in which system did you do this? These are rather important questions.

Think of it this way - it may be legal for an American police officer to shoot and kill a burglar, but if it does that in Denmark, his is getting thrown in jail for a long time.

Yeah, it's a pretty "mixed" environment...

-Pledged to Hudson
-In a Grom exploited system
-Owned by a Federation aligned minor faction

So, I drop in... ships spawn, including clean EGP Operatives and Federal Security Services. Thinking I have carte blanche I engage the EGP, but then i pick up a bounty and FSS go nuts on me :)

So I'm guessing that because the system is Grom exploited, that means I don't get to kill EGP with impunity here? Which makes sense, only I didn't anticipate the FSS to take exception to it.

Anyway, as I understand it, PP isn't tied to the BGS. So I have EGP NPCs pulling me over and scanning me for Hudson cargo, then going about their day. But FSS is also showing up as a crime response. So if I did have Hudson military supplies, and the EGP guy attacked me for them, would they be committing a crime because the system is Federation aligned? Or would they have impunity because I'm carrying PP commodities?

Sorry for all of the questions, this is all so new. I may have to go pick up 1T of Hudson stuff and carry it around with me to see what happens.

There's your problem. You went into a hostile power's system and attacked one of their people - why would you ever think that wouldn't have consequences?

You can attack ships from hostile powers in your power's systems without getting wanted, but that's because it's your system.

I guess at the time I was thinking that because Grom is an independent power, and Hudson is Fed, that the Federal Security Service wouldn't react to my engaging him. It's all trial and error ATM, since I'm on day 3.

Anyway, I guess the ties between PP and the BGS are loose, at best.

OK, next question -- this time it was a CMDR. Clean Felicia Winters CMDR in a Hudson controlled system.

Engaged just outside the starport, and got the small bounty again. It may have been inside the exclusion zone. So I'm guessing exclusion zones still apply (for undermining purposes, I guess)? Had I engaged this CMDR outside of the exclusion zone, or in SC, would I have been free and clear?

Disregard. Must have been because I was inside the exclusion zone.

This time you attacked a ship from a friendly power - killing ships from friendly powers costs you merits and also counts as a crime.

It's like a police officer from Seattle going to New York and then getting shot by the police while in uniform.

You're cracking me up, man. As I said in the Dangerous forum, low-level goons are low-level goons :)

We thought all PP powers were hostile towards each other. All part of the learning process :)

Thanks, by the way, for the input.
