You have developed a Scorpion SRV that is very combat-focused* and a Scarab that is quite versatile.
*However, the rate of fire in the first few seconds is very low, which prevents rapid fire on moving targets. In addition, the projectiles go all over the place, which ultimately makes it unusable against humans.
I thought of a materials collection oriented SRV, being unfit for combat.
This SRV won’t be equipped with a laser weapon, but with a kind of mining laser that prevents it from being useful in combat. It can be used to destroy resource deposits instead.
This SRV will be able to have 8 legs, like a Spider (this remains in the theme of the Scarab and the Scorpion). Its 8 legs will allow it to move laterally, and to turn on itself when stopped (which will give it a lot of mobility). Its legs will then be able to go over small rocks instead of getting stuck on them like the Scarab or the Scorpion. Since they are legs, the vehicle accelerates and brakes much faster than the other two SRVs.
This Spider can jump high by pressing Space, or jump forward (the angle of the jump will depend on the movement speed). If the handbrake is on, then the speed gauge can be set to a desired value and then jump. This will allow the Spider to jump easily and precisely in order to pass an obstacle. The jump path can then be precalculated when the handbrake is on and the throttle is partially depressed.
The Spider could not have a thruster, thus preventing it from flying like the Scarab. This would be an interesting gameplay, and viable if this Spider can move without sliding down very steep slopes. Its legs could absorb a very large fall.
In case of rollover on its back, a button could be pressed to make the legs bend in the other direction. This will allow the spider to have its belly up and its back down without disturbing the ride. It will then be necessary that its belly is identical to its back. It will also be necessary for the cabin to turn on an axis (back/front), which will allow the cabin to be horizontal even if you move perpendicular to a slope or if you turned the Spider over before.
Instead of a turret (for the mining laser and to aim with the scanners), you can leave the mining laser(s) fixed on the cockpit. The Spider can already turn on itself when stationary, it will simply have to be allowed to rotate the laser up and down when in turret mode. It could turn quickly when not in turret mode, and turn slowly when aiming.
The Spider might not have a shield.
If you want to do something a little fancier, you can allow the Spider to spit a big wire at the target so that it walks on it without falling. The wire is quite thin, but the Spider will be coded to walk on it without falling and without tipping in all directions. It will then be a secondary "weapon" with limited ammunition. The range can be limited to this amount of ammunition (you hold down the key to move this jet forward, until it hits something). If you don't have enough ammunition, you can't shoot because the distance is too great. The cursor will therefore be blue or orange depending on the distance and the amount of ammunition left.
Higher rank ammunition will then allow to spit a longer stream, or to spit more.
This thread may require quite advanced resources to be synthesized.
