There is some space for a Factorio style expansion here. It would be great if you could buy/rent these huge colony ships to kickstart a big self sufficient orbital dock. BUT it would be fantastic if you could also fit in your ship (a Type7 should be enough) some small automated mining devices, energy generators, housing, warehouses, life support, hire some people and start a small planet settlement. Sell the ore, buy some smelters, more people... The ore turns into plates that are needed to build other things.... And the settlement grows, turns into a city, attracts trade and only THEN you launch a small station into orbit.
