New System State: Blight

Interesting that even systems which don't have agricultural economy are suffering from this new state.

We will have to haul agri-medicine to an affected station and at the end of that CG it is revealed that some rare commodity is the cure - tea for example.
We then have to haul a lot of tee to that station and everything is fine.

🤨

Yes, recycling the Heike CG from years ago. That would be ... what's the opposite of innovative??? Oh yes, lame!

It looks like the state is currently bugged.

Somehow I expected nothing less!

Nah, we ended the Blight years ago on Dragon Age Origins, in the old days when Bioware was still a thing.

And then I have some crazy fond memories of Blighttown in DarkSouls - maybe we got to face a twisted spider thargoid and then ring a bell???

Yeah, its either bugged or there's something else going on here.
If it's as Galnet suggests some sort of dangerous pathogen, then it could spread to the local food stocks (and the potted plants in the Vice-President's office) of any faction - perhaps not as serious to galactic stability if it's not a faction running an agricultural economy, but still troubling for them.

Orbis and Ocellus stations have those big habitation rings with lots of greenery, for example, regardless of economy. Tourist station interiors have lots of plants. And this is only what we can see from space.

I bet it was caused by all those commanders helping attacked stations. Should just have let them burn. And nuke Eagle Eye military satellites when you had a chance.

Possible, but I'd love to see some in-game repercussions from Blight which we can actually see. At present there are none.

Not sure any amount of fertilizer is going to fix this blight. I reckon it's a genetically engineered pathogen that's killing the crops. Probably need some sorta anti-bacterial/fungal/viral spray to kill it? Meanwhile, everyone starves....

Messing about with mycoid viruses and so on. Hmmm, with reference to the Elite canon what could possibly go wrong :D This whole thing is probably due to some clown not washing their SRV down properly after a visit to one of the abandoned INRA bases.

Nice Doyle avatar by the way, rep given.

I just want to mention that this whole situation, I have been hauling stuff from OK Federation and Imperial stations to troubled Alliacnce stations.

Just found that interesting

New Game State: End Times! Winter Is Coming!

We need to take up an ARX collection for the persons writing Galnet, and upgrade them to a C-64/1200 baud link...

It looks like the state is currently bugged. The effects you'll expect to see on food supply aren't visible in affected agricultural systems. Perhaps this state was released early? You'd think it would be connected to the current Interstellar Initiative/CGs but at present, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Blight seems to be a global state, so, what triggers it? Is there any way to prevent a system from being Blighted? Is it just a temporary state, to be removed after the Interstellar Initiative? Or is it here to stay? (Please say yes, FD). And where does Famine state fit into all this?

If this development does lead to where we think its going (Thargoids), then well done FD, it would be by far the most interesting thing to happen to the Thargoid narrative for years.
The system I was getting the grain for the II have been showing Blight for several days but the market was still full of products. Suddenly yesterday the market was completely empty.
I guess Blight status is fine if we see it as a warning to inform you that they stopped or have a very low production, so what you see in the market is what they have and when it's over, it will not be replenished.

Oh now I got it!

The interstellar initiative is called The Scourge.
I was wondering what could be the link between "grain" and "scourge" and check what I found:
March of the Scourge
We just delivered milion of units of plagued grain by taking it from system with blight status. So the Grain IS the Scourge. If it's so, next week it'll be very interesting!
