News New 'Thargoid Incursion' State

"When a system enters Incursion, the following happens:

  • One starport present in the system (that can be damaged) will be damaged.

  • Each week that passes whilst Incursion is active, a new starport (that can be damaged) will be damaged.
  • If a starport has been fixed after being damaged but the system is still in Incursion, it can be damaged again the week after.

  • All megaships in the system at the point of the state enters Incursion, will appear damaged and unable to continue on their journey."

It's Brexit from the EU perspective!

An interesting mechanic that could be brought in that would relate to the original Elite, could be that if you fsd across systems or very near systems that are under thargoid incursion then you could be pulled out of hyperspace into the nearby incursion zone to spoil your day!

That would give them back their teeth!

All these new exploration and mining features to play with and unique things to find out there while admiring the new lighting and coloring effects. I was planning to take my first long distance trip into the black to enjoy it all.

So I have one question to ask of my fellow Cmdrs that have made trips already into the unknown for long periods and far distances. Where's the best place in the galaxy to watch the bubble burn?:D

....blaze your own trail....as long as you're stuck grinding thargoid kills to keep stations from going offline.

perpetual CGs here we come!

I frankly don't see this incursion state ever occurring unless the Thargoids massively increase the intensity of their attack. The AXI efforts are more than sufficient to wave off any invasion, and they are just a handful of CMDRs.

I really do hope the intensity increases, but even more I hope the Interactions are not optional. Optional dangerous content might as well not exist.

Ahem ahem...

But it's not just us, we have allies that rival in strength and numbers and we are barely holding off the weekly invasion.

The intensity for individual systems do not need to change, but perhaps if they assaulted more systems at once...

*Chuckles in the background*

Reiterating what I just posted over there...

Looking at how many stations still haven't been repaired following FDev's 'rebalancing' of the ludicrous quantities required to fix them I'll be adding an equally pessimistic vote and suggesting this could cause entire player minor faction groups to quit in disgust.

It's a great idea, but if a key station it's taken months to win is suddenly on fire when you get back from a week off and is near impossible to repair for smaller player groups, I suspect we'll see coordinated forum assaults and an influx of new player group apps.

Not, I repeat NOT the player responses FDev intended, lol :p

------

While reading this thread I remembered (but haven't beta'd for myself yet) that there is an impending change to the CZ mechanic that updates the progress of the battle as each kill is recorded, up on the right somewhere...

Considering the new mega-ship interactions it does seem within the realms of possibility the bugs could appear around them too, with their own dedicated spawn tables and impromptu mission objectives on your arrival....

Thinking back across all the current beta live streams from a higher altitude we've seen things added that at ground level look like nice to have, yet disparate systems with no apparent interaction. This, connects a few dots...

FDev: Have you considered that some of the current BGS player groups, that didn't have a lot of members to begin with, contain a percentage of accounts that are logged so infrequently they're essentially idle non-players?

In light of this, can bug invasions be tapered at the front end such that it begins with rumours of non-human USS, then confirmed sightings and finally low level, non fatal attacks on stations so BGS groups are warned to prepare?

How about three weeks 'notice' before the actual invasion?

At least that gives people time to outfit a bug-specific ship.

Hello everyone,

As is fitting with the elusive Thargoids, we've got a surprise announcement for you!

In addition to all of the content we've revealed thus far for Beyond - Chapter Four, the Thargoid threat continues to infest the galaxy in the form of new Thargoid Incursions and Thargoid Conflict Zones. Please read on for all the details!

New State: Thargoid Incursion

  • As time progresses, various systems will find themselves attacked by Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors.
  • Commanders will need to defend the system by killing Thargoids, if they fail to kill a certain number of Thargoids, the system will enter a new Background Simulation state: Incursion.

  • Incursion is a system-wide negative background state that impacts all the factions within that system.
  • Players defend the system (before and during Incursion) by killing Thargoids in that system.

When a system enters Incursion, the following happens:

  • One starport present in the system (that can be damaged) will be damaged.

  • Each week that passes whilst Incursion is active, a new starport (that can be damaged) will be damaged.
  • If a starport has been fixed after being damaged but the system is still in Incursion, it can be damaged again the week after.

  • All megaships in the system at the point of the state enters Incursion, will appear damaged and unable to continue on their journey.
  • Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors that were found in the initial attack will continue to have a presence, but stronger Thargoid Interceptors will now also make an appearance.
  • Thargoid Conflict Zones will also be found in the system, which pits players against Thargoids in waves of combat.
  • The Incursion state lasts (currently) indefinitely until players remove it.
  • To overcome the Incursion state, Commanders must kill Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors.
  • The amount of kills needed to remove the Incursion state varies from system to system.
We'll be exploring the new Thargoid Combat Zones in a livestream on 22 November, but if you can't wait, you'll be able to try them for yourselves in the beta next week!

Questions:
1. So the BGS Incursion state only appears after the first week of attack if the defence fails. Is there any BGS indication that the system is targeted in that first week before Incursion state occurs, prevention being better than cure? Will the eagle eye listening posts still be relevant?
2. Since Thargoid attacks now appear in the BGS stages what will happen with the eagle eye listening posts? Or is this still the sole mechanism to help identify systems during the first week of defence pre-Incursion state?
3. Will the Thargoid Conflict Zones be present during that first week of defence before the Incursion State? If not, will the system still be protected in the current fashion via NHSS without Thargoid Conflict Zones being present?
4. The main issue defending systems now is that the threshold of kills to defend the system is unknown and trying to tally kills across different PC/PS4/Xbox platforms isn't ideal. Will the numerical threshold(s) to save the system be clearly shown in the UI during the week long defence before the Incursion state occurs?
5. Will the kill threshold(s) and progress towards the thresholds be clearly shown during the Incursion state?
6. Will kill threshold(s) be separated across different Thargoid types (i.e. Scouts, Cyclops, Basilisk, Medusa, Hydra) or will it be a generic kill points based system?
7. Do kill counts carry over each week or kill targets change each week, both the week before and during Incursion?
8. BGS stages change on a daily ‘tick’, however, Thargoid system defence has a weekly basis. Will Incursion be a state that can be cleared daily once the threshold is met or does it stick around for the whole week regardless?

This is already in live. The AEGIS sensors detect the target systems, its decoded by people and posted in the forums. If an absolute number of scouts is killed, incursion is avoided. If noone bothers, the system goes down. We're now getting a more visual way of participating, plus Thargoid CZs.

Not sure I understand your response.
I was asking how will we know how many we have to kill; what is the deciding factor of how many have to be killed to stop the incursion.
I also asked as you can see about NPC controlled systems.

AXI has stated that it hasn't mattered how many scouts they kill; the incursion happens anyway. By incursion I mean stations damaged and disabled.

This is a nice change, and I say that as a mostly non combat player. I wish the Thargoids had been more integrated into the BGS from day one.

That said though, I do have a few concerns:

  1. Make sure the number of Thargoid kill totals to defend or retaliate are not too high or the community will never be able to make a difference.
  2. Increase the payouts to kill Thargoids. Currently its rather pathetic, every time I've fought the Thargoids my repair bills were much more than the credits I earned. This means the little Scouts too! Not all of us are super skilled combat pilots, so please make sure the easier Scouts are worth killing to contribute too.
  3. Lower the commodities needed to repair stations. Currently its far too high, and if the required amounts aren't lowered to more attainable levels then this will just get out of hand.
  4. Please have the Incursion BGS state generate a lot of S&R missions from the damaged stations/mega ships. Rescuing escape pods, ferrying fleeing people away from damaged stations, etc. And make these missions contribute to fighting off the incursion state too! It would be fantastic if non combat players can help fight off the Thargoids by helping out as well.

Will a single Interceptor (with stronger variants being worth more) be worth more than a single Scout? Because that’s the dumbest thing about the current Thargoid invasions system that needs to be fixed. They’re way stronger and take several times longer to kill, so it would only make sense that they’re worth more.

Surely once all starports are damaged and ships damaged there could be a new state for Thargoids "Controlled", if they can hit more than two systems a week then we might actually feel at war :)

Will gets stream sniped in a harmless T-Bove-9...

Imagine my shock. NOT!

Confirmed: C&P troll deterrent value = nil <facepalm>[facepalm]

Edit: Nice work proving the current batch of forum gank threads right, genius(s)...
</facepalm>

This is a great step to making this a real war. The next is unlocking Thargoid space so we can counter attack.

Pilots Federation, unlock the systems now! Let us scout out the Thargoids and find and attack them. What are we afraid of at this point? ing them off? Think we crossed that bridge back in the INRA days.
