News New 'Thargoid Incursion' State

So, now the Thargoids are going to regularly and relentlessly destroy inhabited systems. Any chance we'll get the ability to build new stations/colonize new planets to replace the ones the Thargs wipe out?
 
This is a nice change, and I say that as a mostly non combat player. I wish the Thargoids had been more integrated into the BGS from day one.

That said though, I do have a few concerns:


  1. Make sure the number of Thargoid kill totals to defend or retaliate are not too high or the community will never be able to make a difference.
  2. Increase the payouts to kill Thargoids. Currently its rather pathetic, every time I've fought the Thargoids my repair bills were much more than the credits I earned. This means the little Scouts too! Not all of us are super skilled combat pilots, so please make sure the easier Scouts are worth killing to contribute too.
  3. Lower the commodities needed to repair stations. Currently its far too high, and if the required amounts aren't lowered to more attainable levels then this will just get out of hand.
  4. Please have the Incursion BGS state generate a lot of S&R missions from the damaged stations/mega ships. Rescuing escape pods, ferrying fleeing people away from damaged stations, etc. And make these missions contribute to fighting off the incursion state too! It would be fantastic if non combat players can help fight off the Thargoids by helping out as well.

All quite reasonable suggestions. Let's hope Fdev listens. I would add that not only do Thargoid payouts need to be increased across the board, the scouts payout needs to be addressed the most. A basic scout should pay at least 50k and the special scouts should pay between 150k and 250k. Also in terms of combat rank, special scouts should be worth more than regular scouts and interceptors should be worth a lot more than the special scouts. For example a special scout being worth double the combat rank of a marauder and a cyclops (worth 4 scouts combat rank) being worth double a special scout and it doubles with basilisk (worth 8 scouts combat rank), doubles again with medusa (worth 16 scouts combat rank) and again with hydra (worth 32 scouts combat rank)

So that is why you forgot to remove threat level from stations in the first beta. Couldn't be just a mistake.

2. Since Thargoid attacks now appear in the BGS stages what will happen with the eagle eye listening posts? Or is this still the sole mechanism to help identify systems during the first week of defence pre-Incursion state?

I'll go with this question.

I hope if Eagle Eye mechanic still is in place, that there will be a possibility to see the reuslt of the decoding ingame and not only here at the Forums. I hope for a ingame form, where decoded results can be entered and then are visible in the codex. That could be a nice solution to present this rather interesting mechanic ingame and not having us required to consult Froums to play Thargoid content.

I woulda liked the thargoids system invasion to start at the farthest out non gas giant planet and work in.

If you win the battle for Planet X, you kick them out of the system. If you lose, well, there’s a new ammonia world. All surface installations gone. System population amended accordingly and any orbitals beaten up. Then they move on to the next planet until they’ve either been kicked out or the system is an ammonia-filled hell hole.

Can you imagine the orbital battles to save the onion head plantations?

Few questions..

What if I have absolutely no interest in Thargoids can I continue to play as if they never existed?
What if there is no real player density in my system? Who kills the Thargoids?
What if there is only one station in my system and my entire fleet and that of my other accounts are all based at that station?
 
Makes sense why implemented it. Normally they would've released the Fleet carriers along with this BGS change where u could jump your capital ship to incursion zones to fight with thargoids easily without traveling far away.

The missing link here is the fleet carriers.

I am not FDev, but what we heared, Thargoids still remain optional until they damage a station. You will be safe in your ship from Thargoids mostly if you don't decide to enter Non Human Singal Source or Thargoid Combat Zone.
Of course players can lure Thargoids to stations. And sometimes it happens that Thargoids catch you out of witchspace, called hyperdiction. That's really rare though.

What if there is no real player density in my system? Who kills the Thargoids?

I think this will stay as it is now. All your ships will be moved to a nearby rescue ship. Your modules will remain at the station, but you can recover them inside of the damaged station normally.

Very nice new thing! Hope there will be more for each BGS state which will have clearly visible effect on systems. ... maybe I finally can have a reason (ingame) for use my AX ship.

What advantages would one have by the presence of their fleet carrier? We don't know anything about them or how they're planned to work. I see no reason why the Thargoids can't be fought via normal means.

New State: Thargoid Incursion

  • As time progresses, various systems will find themselves attacked by Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors.
  • Commanders will need to defend the system by killing Thargoids, if they fail to kill a certain number of Thargoids, the system will enter a new Background Simulation state: Incursion.
  • Incursion is a system-wide negative background state that impacts all the factions within that system.
  • Players defend the system (before and during Incursion) by killing Thargoids in that system.

When a system enters Incursion, the following happens:

  • One starport present in the system (that can be damaged) will be damaged.
  • Each week that passes whilst Incursion is active, a new starport (that can be damaged) will be damaged.
  • If a starport has been fixed after being damaged but the system is still in Incursion, it can be damaged again the week after.
  • All megaships in the system at the point of the state enters Incursion, will appear damaged and unable to continue on their journey.
  • Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors that were found in the initial attack will continue to have a presence, but stronger Thargoid Interceptors will now also make an appearance.
  • Thargoid Conflict Zones will also be found in the system, which pits players against Thargoids in waves of combat.
  • The Incursion state lasts (currently) indefinitely until players remove it.
  • To overcome the Incursion state, Commanders must kill Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors.
  • The amount of kills needed to remove the Incursion state varies from system to system.

Will Stations still be attacked weekly ? (Eagle Eye Network etc)
 
Suggestion: have the Thargoid Incursions be Squadron compatible. Such as if a Squadron works together to deter the incursion they get rewarded for their efforts.

Question: when will we see the Thargoid mothership in-game?

How does NPC's will react to this new state and danger? Will we be able to see NPC's fighting goids in Combat Zones?

Is there an new mission type for this state? Like Thargoid Massacre Mission where you need to kill a number of scout or interceptors within a system? (not like currently broken missions in Aegis megaships)

Has this been answered yet? I'd certainly hope NPC are on our side, and will, if they can, join in the fight.
