News New 'Thargoid Incursion' State

Personally, I would prefer an alien interaction plotline that is NOT predicated on pew-pew. Trading rares with pseudo-Puppeteers for tips on interesting POI's or alien-engineered modules or ships, forex.

Urgh...so those of us that don't want to grind, or just don't grind for that anti thargoid stuff basically have no chance and have to abandon our core trading systems that we spent years building up the rep for.
Oh Joy.

If they are going to be core part of the game play, then we should just be able to outfit the appropriate weapons to fight them.

You can still get the old AX weapons from military bases. They are effective. They are not as OP as the Guardian Gauss, but you can use them.

This is a move in the right decision and I thank FD for that.

But, the Thargoid threat is still optional, and still require the player to expose themselves to that threat by entering USS/Combat Zones.

Threats aren't threatening when they're optional.

How about allowing Thargoids to rip players out of supercruise, before attacking the player - in Incursion-state systems only? That would really add a level of danger which isn't there now and still won't be in Chapter 4.

Yes please, this is really a must if Incursions are to feel dangerous!

Just go and get AX weapons which are freely available at bases. No grind involved apart for looking for who stocks them. That is what I will be doing.

I may do the guardian unlock every once it a while, doesn't feel like a grind like that.

Just as I was thinking.
I realy don't like the "grind" for the guardian weapons but I love the new incursion state fdev is introducing.
Unlocking one item in between the usual stuff I do once in a while would make it more bearable I guess.

Ugh and now I realy want those guardian SLFs.........

I have both good and bad thoughts on this as follows:

Firstly Will thargoid attacks happen in real time, (so we can actually witness it) as having stations lets say instantly damaged is NOT immersive and two having it done in real time would give players that chance to act against it, this can be done in many ways, if you intend to implement this incursion on lots of systems not all players can see in real time, but having that choice would be far better than not.

Scenario If a station is damaged and no players acts on it will the station become a wreckage state station no longer repairable? making the station itself a BGS a reminder of thargoid power etc, having a massive wreckage field of what was once a station in the bubble could afford new gameplay later, perhaps "salvage missions" ( thoughts for the future cover your angles with future gameplay)

Will these thargoid conflict zones be the same as what we have now a zone we enter and choice a side,? If so it does not sound that impressive "Imo"

Will payouts for thargoid destruction be worth players while? Balance !!

Will more mission ideas come from this incursion state again for salvage mission (as search rescue/ salvage) needs some serious attention having been neglected!

Will incursion states have immersive side to it for example ( thargoid green mist in the entire or 80% of the system) using the new lighting system.

These are just a couple of idea suggestions for making it better in the long run, much like the codex and moving forward giving yourselves links to use for other ways to improve gameplay and BGS, narrative, immersion.

I really hope so as thargoid threat is currently in game and it sounds much like it's just being brought forward to more inside the bubble with some conflict zones, You have not sold me on it atm for that very reason, unless some of the ideas above are coming with it.
This does sound like another multiplayer combat driven idea, wasn't sure if we have enough combat going on in game, with maybe less time placed into other mechanics of the game, for example:

1,Search & rescue (salvage) massive mission and solo style based way to earn credits in a balanced way Having wreckage in space (better looking) planet ship wreckage and if stations are to be damaged even destroyed huge station wreckage fields to again use for salvage.
2, Scavenge similar to above having system set to very poor states or system that is just littered with USS wreckage scavenge sites?? centred around a doomed station, Its great BGS, a little like the BGS you have just introduced distress call famine, however using the system to scavenge for parts and sell them either black market or trade, maybe introduce like search and rescue a scrapyard selling ships parts and modules, it is a whole new way of making credits a whole new mode added to Elite.

Hopefully some extra thought may go hand in hand with the new incursion idea,I hope frontier don't lose out on missing potentially great ideas from the forum as large as it is.
The end.

How about people who aren't willing to read the thread for the answer that has been given a half a dozen times already?

I have already unlocked the FSD booster and really enjoyed that. Give it enough time and I will enjoy unlocking something else. Those fighters do look cool.

I agree with this new incursion state, looks great and that it's integrated into the BGS. I am wondering if they have any more of this kind of stuff hidden up their sleeve.

I agree it's again frontiers way of PUSHING combat to players that don't want to do combat all the time, unless frontier start putting in equal ways to combat like adding in a second option to fighting, having some form of missions from the incursions or scavenge, search rescue, though search rescue is badly neglected because its useless atm, and scavenge isnt in the game these would be key features to include for non combat players at least>!!!

This is awesome news, Will! That's something that will enhance the interaction with the Thargoids immensely, if it works! I really hope the battle for systems against the insectoid overlords will play and feel as intense and dynamic as it reads in the opening post! [up]

It will only work if frontier do it correctly for example, not just copy paste Non human signal sources put stations into instant damage state, WE HAVE all that now!! ok so adding BGS but how good will it really be, can non combat players do anything with this.. Its pushing combat in faces of players ONCE MORE.

I love it! This is definitely a step in the right direction - there were lots of comments that attacked systems don't really differ from non-attacked ones and this feature is a good progress to change that.

Couple of questions:

1) Are further changes planned to emphasise the difference between attacked and non-attacked systems?
2) Will there be live Thargoid attacks on stations? (Similar to Gnosis event).

Thanks!

Because it's 14 pages of posts that have a good chance of not helping any bit?

You could simply have linked to the answer in this thread yourself. But I guess I'll go read through it all and try to find what you're referring to. If only so I can link it later in this post myself.

Well, the most concise is:
You do not need anything other than normal weapons to fight Scouts

You do not necessarily need hull or shield tanks to fight any Thargoid

You do not need Guardian weapons to fight Interceptors, freely available AX weapons will do the job, at least against Cyclopses and (certainly in a wing) Basilisks.

THARGOID FIGHTING DOES NOT NEED GRIND

Though no one answered:
Now can we get some Guardian weapons suitable for heart sniping in a variant other than fixed, for crying out loud? ...especially since the non-fixed AX weapons have been so horribly nerfed? I suspect there are a system-load of old(er) HOTAS pilots who'd jump into the Thargoid content with all hardpoints blazing if it wasn't so tuned for the KBM users.*

* The premise, of course, is that fixed weapon effectiveness is much more attainable (especially with FAoff) for (younger) KBM fliers than it is for people with most HOTAS setups (especially the lower-end sticks/throttles). If you disagree AND fly HOTAS/HOSAS, your demonstrated medium-hull, Guardian weapon, Interceptor solo kills certainly give you that right!

And there are hardly any AX, OR Guardian gimballed weapons (is the AX Shock Cannon any good?). And not any AX or Guardian weapons of level 4 (huge slots). So FDev is making people force a play style in a (semi) forced game mechanic.

I'm a returning noob to this game. So please excuse me for any unknowing remarks.

This sounds good for me, as I'm still building my combat rank. Can I ask, does anybody yet know how killing different Thargoid ships compares (points wise) the different ranked pilots?

Thanks :)
