News New 'Thargoid Incursion' State

This needs to carry more risk, such as Thargoids hyperdicting and attacking ships.

Thargoid interaction will still be optional, don't go into systems with Thargoid Incursion states.

It's a shame the stations will be damaged via a tick, instead of this happening in real game play.

Apologies if this has been raised before (to old and lazy to read the whole thread).

Can we remove the limit on AX and Guardian weapons per ship (4 max), this would go a long way to help stay in a Zone for longer (longer stay = more fun).

Then we could really build some badass gunships to take the fight to the Thargoids!

Thargoids altogether. Not interested. Let those who want to pew-pew them do so away from the those of us who do not.

I paid money for Elite Dangerous (a term of rank by the way, not hazard) to fly spaceships; not to be forced into shooting space-flower NPCs that were introduced in order to justify months of grinding just to get the necessary unique weapons.

I must say that when it comes to introducing a brilliant update, Ch 4, no company knows better how to then screw it all up by forcing combat on players better than Frontier do.

A masterpiece of ineptitude on the part of FD, imo of course.

What really makes me laugh is that people whine that they need to build a whole another ship to kill goids. Are they mad that they cant efficiently mine in their combat FDL as well? Or that they have to build an explo ship to actually explore? FDev makes overpowered multi-purpose ships every update as it is, but lets face it, if you want to do something you build a specialized ship. AX is not a normal PvE, it has different mechanics and requires different skills, and it requires different ship and builds as well. I agree that build variety within AX can and should be better, but goids wouldn't be special if you could just fry them with your shiny PvE turret-cutter.

That said, it only takes a bit of will to learn how to kill one, and scouts do take damage from normal weapons, so people unwilling to get into guardian stuff can still defend. The most effective anti-scout weapon is actually turreted AX Multicannon, which is sold freely at military planetary bases, without any grind needed. Those complaining just show their lack of effort to get into AX.

Maybe, just maybe, some of us do not want to 'get into' AX.

That may be our choice. Learn to respect it as we respect yours.

Well the other day when hyperdicted in my cargo hauling T9 I accidently rammed Mr. thargoid and still got away despite being mass locked and low waking out so risk may not be as great as imagined unless you are flying something small and slow (or player panics).

As long as players are blocked off participating until they have specific gimmick loadouts (which require some grind to attain, and the willingless to submit to those pidgeonholed ship setups over their customized, preferred loadouts), the content needs to remain optional. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed. Rep +1

I'm really looking forward to this. Boy, BGS will going nuts. Thanx Frontier!

Nevertheless, I share some of the concerns/questions raised here.

1. Will there be some kind of "pending state" like with the other BGS-states?
2. Will the costs for station-repair adjusted? I'm referring to small player groups (squadrons)
3. Whats happening with the lesser visited systems? Will they be dOOmed?
4. As far as I believe, over time, the bubble will be overrun with goids, because we're only able to REACT to Goid-Threads and THEY can appear almost everywhere at anytime.

But, as I stated earlier, Oh Boy am I looking forward to this. The galaxy will burn.

1. I believe the pending "state" is thargoids attacking. Incursion happens if the system isn't adequately defended.

As for 4... I suspect that by the time this becomes an issue there will be a few updates to the game and they will probably have some means of counter attack or system wide protection from attack.

Combine making it so that regular weapons can do some anti-xeno damage (obviously less than the dedicated weapons) with making Thargoids an actual aggressive threat that isn't 100% opt-in.

So danger level and tension is increased, but you've also got the ability to deal with attacks without needing to re-outfit your entire ship. And now fighting Thargoids gets integrated with the rest of the game, rather than being its own walled-off theme park.

It's even reasonably lore-friendly: the anti-xeno tech has been out for a while, so it's not crazy to think that mainstream weapons manufacturers would include some basic level of it by now.

Introducing more anti-Xeno weapons and modules was - as far as I'm concerned - just a means to easily add yet more grind walls (gameplay? personal narrative?) for players to spend their time doing.

I still think the game would have been in a much healthier place if the standard weapons had damaged Thargoids, maybe tweaked to be less/more effective depending on a weapon by weapons basis etc.

As someone who pretty much only does bgs for my player faction and has never had any interest in Thargoids i'm assuming i'm going to hate this.

And if bgs comes to a complete halt because of alien invasion and we have to spend tens/hundreds of hours undoing their damage before normal bgs activity can resume it will probably the reason why I give up on Elite after 4 years.

Few questions..

What if I have absolutely no interest in Thargoids can I continue to play as if they never existed?
What if there is no real player density in my system? Who kills the Thargoids?
What if there is only one station in my system and my entire fleet and that of my other accounts are all based at that station?

This ^^^

This is a very welcome change ! Good job Fdev =) Love the conflict zone idea !!!

Suggestion :

- You should add some random supercruise interdiction by Thargoids in the Incursion state system (ISS). This would be a very great improvement so we can feel that the threat is real. Chances of being interdicted while travelling in SC in an ISS could increase each week if the system stay in incursion state. So you could have low level threat systems, medium threat and high threat depending on the risk of being interdicted.

Meeting the Thargoids made me the man I am today.

Behold, it cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see it, and they also which pierced it: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of it.

I know your deeds Commander; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die.
