News New 'Thargoid Incursion' State

Please can we have adequate rewards for repairing starports then?

Currently there is little to no incentive and, as a result, some of the very first starports to be damaged are still left in a state of disrepair. If systems in Incursion State are going to be plunged into downward spirals like this, please give us a good reason to go and resurrect what would otherwise be an incredibly inconvenient place to visit.

Alternatively, please allow rearming and ship repair at stations "under repair".

Or even better, add a simulation of "NPCs repairing the station" - the amount of materials required is constantly decreasing, and if left for long enough (no more than a month), the station effectively repairs itself.

Would be nice if this is coupled with increased profits (yes, the current profits isn't enough, especially for some far-away stations). You get nice profits AND help to repair a damaged station! Everybody wins!

To those who are opposed to this new incursion state.

The Thargoids have always been a part of the Elite "world", back in 1984 the were a real threat where there was no way at all you could simply ignore them, they attacked you on site.
I'm no combatant by any means and rely on the resilience of my ship, a Corvette, and I surely wish there were more ways to interact with the aliens besides combat.
However the response of being forced into this Thargoid thing and not wanting that is imho dismissing one of the core elements in Elite as a whole.
Thargoids are part of Elite, always have been.
It would be like playing Skyrim but not wanting the dragons in the game.

Imho I find Fdev very lenient in the fact that you indeed can ignore the Thargoid event even when the incursion state is introduced, simply don't visit those systems.

Although not being that good in combat and only using gimbal and turret weapons I applaud this new incursion state.
Imho they should add Thargoid interdictions in supercruise within the affected systems too, Thargoids always were very dangerous and a serious threat, they should be in ED too.

You can still ignore them though, so you're not forced into anything here imho.

Just my two cents.

The best information we have is all thargoid pilots are worth slightly more than and elite pilot. There seems to be no difference between a scout pilot and an interceptor pilot regardless of interceptor type or scout type.

Downloading a 'no dragons' mod is the first thing I do when I start Skyrim again. :p Anyway, I think it isn't as much about what is a core part of Elite and what isn't for many. Games like Elite for many people satisfy a 'power fantasy': being the amazing uber pilot, bravely cleaning RES sites and all that. But this only works as long as the opponent have no teeth, and we can roleplay our superior awesomeness. Which is why the second AI is improved, gets better loadout, becomes better at interdicting, runs when damaged or when Thargoids become pro-active these people are upset. Because all of this ruins their immersion, you cant convincingly tell yourself you are any good when some scout kills your corvette. Suddenly you are no famous Captain of the HMS whatever, but a dude who grinded for a fake ship only to lose it over and over due to lacking skills.

And it is a sizable group of people, so FD always keeps their interest in mind. :(

You're thinking like a human, not like a bug. Hive instinct is to invade and eradicate highest threats. You attack them, you've poked the hive.

Even more than that, we, as humans are occupying space that the Thargoids have claimed as their own and to them it is the same as an attack. The guardians found out that the Thargoids attacked any space fairing species that "could potentially" threaten their civilization regardless of intent.

'Excuse me Mr Thargoid Sir, could you refrain from attacking me for a bit, I just need to pop off and change my loadout, I'll be back in about an hour, toodlepip!'

SO if no one repels the invaders and the goids burn the bubble will we.:

A, get a new bubble other than colonia
B, The game will end...
C, If both A,& B...will bugs gets fixed then...?

Judging by how many systems are inhabited, I think we're safe from this happening for at least 5 or 6 years

Well the other day when hyperdicted in my cargo hauling T9 I accidently rammed Mr. thargoid and still got away despite being mass locked and low waking out so risk may not be as great as imagined unless you are flying something small and slow (or player panics).

Thargoids should be more hostile in those systems in "Thargoid Incursion" state, obviously.

Meeting the Thargoids made me the man I am today.

Behold, it cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see it, and they also which pierced it: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of it.

I know your deeds Commander; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die.

Interesting rearranged quote of a passage from revelation.

And if it should happen to be my 'home' (non-faction) system?

Then you can opt out and watch your system burn. Thargoids are a core part of the game since 1984, deal with it, move to Colonia, or play something else. The invasion has been coming for years now and anyone who has been paying any attention at all has seen it coming. You don't want to participate, stay out of threatened systems. I don't want to mine, so I don't.... but that still didn't stop selene from extorting me into it. I dealt with that, you can deal with thargoids.

This is the stupidest idea I've seen so far. Whatever happened to "blaze your own trail"?

You're forcing us to battle the thargoids otherwise the bubble will be slowly eroded away.

Blaze your own trail, sure, but in context of Armageddon. What's not to be loved? You can still expatriate to Colonia.

Well, if you don't want thargoid content, your trail leads to Colonia. But all jokes aside, who actually believes the "puff" that fdev puts out? Do you remember Sandro with"we don't want to waste your time"? The game is not an open sandbox as it claims, it is a tightly controlled sandbox with scripted events and a predetermined path. It has always been that and regardless of what "Marketing" says, that is the way it will remain.

Ridiculous. So without any intervention, station after station will be damaged, and system after system will 'fall', thus disrupting anyone who may operate normally out of these systems. Being forced to go elsewhere must be great consolation and welcoming advice to anyone not interested in this and will tick them off very quickly.

Really people, think this through: this will require a concerted effort on your part to counter, and will become a tremendous slog, even if you are in favour of it. Depending on how liberally this is implemented, and the players willing to commit to it, there is the potential that systems will be cut off, one by one, if the targets are not met.

Which predetermined path is that.
