News New 'Thargoid Incursion' State

What on earth makes you think that PvP is required to defend one's home system from the Thargoids?

OK, bad choice of words. I meant and again playing devils advocate, those who don't like combat. Is that better?! And yes you may want to fix your stations but if I read it correctly the need of fighting Thargoids determines how much and how long damage is done to your system correct? You could not fight and just repair but it could still become damaged again if they're still attacking the system right? So what do you do as a lone commander?

Please have them pull you out of supercruise or have a presence outside of USS before (and while) they also attack stations. I shouldn't be able to freely fly around a system that's under attack by aliens.

You're thinking like a Human.

Thargoids are not idiots (npcs) who want to destroy a ship to earn less than a single transport mission. If they're insects, they may not even perceive our presence other than "heat sources". If, as I like to supose, they're plants, we don't even exist and people. They might even be giant bacteria or alike. The big jump interdictions (ie hyperdiction) might even not be wanted but just a consequence of space perturbation created by their presence or their own jumps.

Noone is forced to enter Thargoid Incursion systems. But when you do, thargoids should be able to actively attack you. RUnning supplies to a damaged station in an incursion state should be very dangerous. Not a walk in the park with some USS sprinkled around as it currently is.

I actually agree with this concept, and I have very little desire to combat Thargoids. I'd mostly avoid these systems myself, but I think they should exist.

It just seems to make sense, and makes the galaxy more 'alive'.

BUT, if there are missions to deliver cargo or whatever to those systems, the payouts should reflect the danger. Then we'd have some risk/reward going on, and that's a good thing. Smuggling goods in past the Thargoids, in a fast ship...it sounds fun, doesn't it?

Seems to me that this whole Thargoid incursion stuff is just an attempt by Frontier to promote the use of squadrons and wings.

FD are insistent on shoving their 'multiplayer' mantra down the throat of players, even those of us who prefer to play on our own.

Certain posters have referred to the inclusion of Goids in the 1984 game...a game which was for a solo player.

FD's attempt to turn ED into a social media platform is clearly not going to end any time soon, presumably because the metrics show that players stay online longer in groups and more micro-transactions are taken out in the store when players get together.

To be expected, I suppose.

Okay, but if the Thargoids run into a system in the Bubble, would the Militairy not be activated instead of private citizens that happen to have a nice ship with combat capability, whatever is the military even for otherwise, same for System Police, what is their purpose if not to counter alien attacks, give out speeding tickets while a Thargoids kill everything around?
Just saying. --- DK

The intensity for individual systems do not need to change, but perhaps if they assaulted more systems at once...

*Chuckles in the background*

Didn't realize so many players were actively involved.
That's almost half a CGs worth already. Since I imagine the kill count for a system win will remain the same, this is of course what I meant by a change in intensity (invaded_systems/wk). Which means the intensity of the attacks would need to more than double, assuming the added attention gets CG level interest. I guess the difficultly of the signal sources could increase as well, but let's see if Frontier is brave enough to attempt to overwhelm players. They have been kind enough to add higher threat levels and ramp up the strength of the individual Thargoids.

Hello everyone,

As is fitting with the elusive Thargoids, we've got a surprise announcement for you!

In addition to all of the content we've revealed thus far for Beyond - Chapter Four, the Thargoid threat continues to infest the galaxy in the form of new Thargoid Incursions and Thargoid Conflict Zones. Please read on for all the details!

New State: Thargoid Incursion

  • As time progresses, various systems will find themselves attacked by Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors.
  • Commanders will need to defend the system by killing Thargoids, if they fail to kill a certain number of Thargoids, the system will enter a new Background Simulation state: Incursion.
  • Incursion is a system-wide negative background state that impacts all the factions within that system.
  • Players defend the system (before and during Incursion) by killing Thargoids in that system.

When a system enters Incursion, the following happens:

  • One starport present in the system (that can be damaged) will be damaged.
  • Each week that passes whilst Incursion is active, a new starport (that can be damaged) will be damaged.
  • If a starport has been fixed after being damaged but the system is still in Incursion, it can be damaged again the week after.
  • All megaships in the system at the point of the state enters Incursion, will appear damaged and unable to continue on their journey.
  • Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors that were found in the initial attack will continue to have a presence, but stronger Thargoid Interceptors will now also make an appearance.
  • Thargoid Conflict Zones will also be found in the system, which pits players against Thargoids in waves of combat.
  • The Incursion state lasts (currently) indefinitely until players remove it.
  • To overcome the Incursion state, Commanders must kill Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors.
  • The amount of kills needed to remove the Incursion state varies from system to system.
We'll be exploring the new Thargoid Combat Zones in a livestream on 22 November, but if you can't wait, you'll be able to try them for yourselves in the beta next week!

And the galaxy starts burning! ...........(well, human bubble).
This will be interesting!

Downloading a 'no dragons' mod is the first thing I do when I start Skyrim again. :p

That just makes me so very sad for you. Skyrim without dragons is like Minecraft without a pickaxe. :(

Seems to me that this whole Thargoid incursion stuff is just an attempt by Frontier to promote the use of squadrons and wings.

FD are insistent on shoving their 'multiplayer' mantra down the throat of players, even those of us who prefer to play on our own.

Maybe a little bit, but I think it's more about a better integration of Thargoids into the game proper than we've had so far.

In order to be a successful integration though a few key things should happen concurrently:

  1. Make sure the number of Thargoid kill totals to defend or retaliate are not too high or the community will never be able to make a difference.
  2. Increase the payouts to kill Thargoids. Currently its rather pathetic, every time I've fought the Thargoids my repair bills were much more than the credits I earned. This means the little Scouts too! Not all of us are super skilled combat pilots, so please make sure the easier Scouts are worth killing to contribute as well.
  3. Lower the commodities needed to repair stations. Currently its far too high, and if the required amounts aren't lowered to more attainable levels then this will just get out of hand.
  4. Please have the Incursion BGS state generate a lot of S&R missions from the damaged stations/mega ships. Rescuing escape pods, ferrying fleeing people away from damaged stations, etc. And make these missions contribute to fighting off the incursion state too! It would be fantastic if non combat players can help fight off the Thargoids by helping out as well.

Yes![yesnod][up]

Finally!

I'd like to see Thargoid combat directly out side a station. That would be very cool.

I see some people live under a rock or something. I am gonna be this guy that will crash your thinking about what is going on around you. THEY ARE ALREADY HERE. For many weeks in fact. Thargoid invaded The Bubble for long time now, and every week hundreds of CMDR's (AXI, Hive and independed pilots) are fighting with them to protect systems. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Don't believe me?

And here you have what you wanted to see.

Bleh; how gamey can you get? How about Conflict Zones which players -clear- after killing X numbers of Thargoids, only for new Conflict Zones to spawn until the incursion is repelled (or successful)?

Overall though, good to see Thargoid content becoming more mainstream. Still need to remove the special weapons requirement, and add more direct thread (Thargoid interdictions).
