New to exploring... what should I be on the look out for?

Well I marked where it is and it's got a boatload of planets. I was thinking of coming back someday in the far future when I have a fleet carrier for a base and mapping the entire region.
But yeah, the orbits for the planets in that system were all wonky. Most of them had that same 'X' laytout where you said they were orbiting a center of mass rather than an actual star proper? Freaky lol

The system map includes an orrery view which is a 3d display of everything. It’s easier to see orbits and positioning there, rather than in the 2d diagram view. Check it out.

Someone might of said this before but if you wanna get extra monies try find undiscovered systems and see if they have any exo signs.

try make it fun also you can get bored of it quickly go visit some poi’s or try find your own never head just to colonia without exploring only do that if you need to rush for engineers but always take your time you might find something cool there are so many unmarked systems to discover I recommend getting plugins to help you if your on pc or Just do it without doesn’t matter the main point is to have fun after all o7.

8 stars? in one system?

I stumbled across this system that has 8 T Tauri stars orbiting a blue-white.

(Yes, those are all classified as T Tauri, rather than gas giants.)

One of the most unusual star systems I have encountered.
