Newbee, Question about turrets?

HI! I loaded a turret onto my ship "Hauler" and It told me something " I think it said that I assign a weapons number slot or something. So looked at it but I dont see anything other than my lasers so I added ( With the + sign ) but still nothing for turrets. So should I be seening one? or does it just auto fire when an enemy is within turret range?


2: So in panel ( 4 ) I look at the last tab ( Using tab then arrow down) and I saw it had an option for "Forward fire", My question is how to I select backward fire? I tried selecting it and pressing enter ( which is my select ) but nothing happened. I have 2 turrets ( Thinking that if one is forward then the other should be backward but I see not option )

As I understand it (I haven't used turrets much):

Turrets fire independently at hostile ships.

You can tell them to fire at will, so they will fire at anything and everything they can hit wherever it is.
You can tell them to forward fire, so they will fire at anything in front of your ship.
Or you can tell them only to fire at your target.

If they're on fire at will, that's as comprehensive a coverage as you'll get. However, be warned that they'll be firing in all directions and can often hit ships of the police or other friendly ships which can lead you into all kinds of trouble. :)

Also when you're looking at the Outfitting hangar you can see where each hardpoint is when you look at it so you can tell whether it is on the front, sides, back or wherever. If I remember right the Hauler has only a single forward gun point, but the turrets have a very wide arc of fire.

If those are point defense turrets, they only work against incoming missiles and are not visible in weapons grouping.

That's right, but I think they were referring to "proper" turreted weapons, with the "(T)" designation in their description.

Yes they are point defense turrets.

How do we then tell them to fire at enemies only? where the instructions on that? I only see the forward fire option in the last tab.

HI! So its a auto fire on incoming missiles. nothing to set or tell it, it just auto shoots on any incoming missiles.

Thank commanders, I appreciate all the help. :)

Yes it shoots little green lasers at missiles within range. I'm not sure about the positioning of them though, I have a pdt on both of my cobras utility mounts, so far I have only noticed the lasers shooting from under my ship at missiles coming right at me, I'm not clear on any kind of line of sight they may need, or where exactly the mounts are on the ships.

You can see where the utility mounts on the Cobra are when looking to upgrade the C2 hard points. They are in the foreground from memory. I hope this is something that improves at release. It's frustrating not knowing where they are exactly.
