Newcomer is Done - quitting for a while - maybe for good

750 hrs?

I played Fallout 3 for about 200 hrs with 3 or maybe 4 play-through's and consider it one of the best games I have ever played.

My time in ED is over 2,000 hrs.

I've managed to wrack up some 5 billion in total assets, have over a billion credits liquid cash, never sat around scanning data ports or blowing up skimmers, stacked missions via login/logout, flown shiploads of passengers to the wrong tourist beacon, nor wasted hours on end hauling low-grade econo-passengers - or any of those other things that too-hard-working forum commanders decry as "exploits".

I just fly my ship. I do odd missions, take VIPs to places, and scan alien things. When I don't want to do any of that, I go blow up pirates. And when I don't want to do anything at all, I mine.

Been at this for coming up on four years now... lost a few ships here and there, it happens. I also take breaks, sometimes short, some times long. Been off-and-on with taking a break as of late while I explore some other titles that look particularly promising. Mostly early release stuff, all progressing at their own rates. I'll wind up back here for hours on end again sooner or later though. Elite is a great game, or will be, when they get that far with it.

Was ninjad with the can I haz your stuff, Gutted never said that before.
Burnout OP, it happens but thing is don't keep doing the same thing over and over. Yeah some is going to say that's elite. And I agree OP getting a bounty for doing a mission you were asked to do by the exact faction that asked you to do it is sloppy programming but that aside. Try something different, Fly about. don't chase credits. its not all about getting that big ship. Just have fun. New character in game 20 weeks in number of rebuys =0 don't do rebuy makes it more fun. You concentrate more and appreciate the ship you have. Even if its a cobra MK3

TLDR its not about credits per hour its about fun per hour.

Whoa OP dont vanish yet! I've got a question.

What ship were you using for an 11mil rebuy value? and why were you using it for skimmer missions!

Wondered that myself. You can kill skimmers in really almost any ship. Why risk your high-credit ones? I've used an FDL before but nothing bigger. That was more due to laziness than by design.
750 hours. Huh. I can count maybe 4 games I've played in the past decade I had 750 hours playing. Some TotalWar titles. Hearts of Iron 3, Men of War Assault Squad 2. I think this game has a ton of value for what I paid for it.

Can I has your stuff? [big grin]

I ran the numbers on my Skimmer Gunship and it was just over 10 million on the rebuy, so... certainly possibfle with the mediums. Though the only reason.its that high is cause I bought reactive armor for it, as its shields tended to go down alramingly fast from base fire even fully engineered, and with new bases I would jave to whether tjat fire while lookong.for the Generator.

That being said though I am by no means a "Newcomer" and am super curious as to what the OPs ship amd build were.

After 750 hours of this game... I was making 3 to 4 million an hour ... They attacked while I was distracted .... I only get to play a few hours on any day ... I lost it all in one encounter ... Down 11 million to rebuy my ship ... I've made that way was 130 million in one trip that took me about a week. ... I'll fly the road till I get enough to properly outfit an Anaconda...

750h X 4M/h = 3B.. you have no idea how many anacondas you can outfit with that wealth..

Now, if you are down 11M for rebuy, but earn 4M per hour you are allowed to die every 3 hours and still stacking up money.. So you telling me that you have been killed at least one time per day you play that you still don't have enough cash to outfit an anaconda??

I'd say it is ok if you leave the game right now, seriously.

Reads more like a rage quit/feel sorry for me thread; acting like a 14 year old because you went afk and the game handed you your backside on a platter really won't get you very far around here. In an hour or two when you calm down I have no doubt you will be logging back in.

Doesn't really matter... why walk away from Elite while logged in? It takes mere seconds to log out and no one can kill you when you're logged out.

Whoa in my skim reading I didnt even pick that up!

OP seriously what were you thinking man...after 750 hours theres no excuse for that.

You shouldnt even be feeling bad about it.

Is it really necessary to insult the OP? I'm always disheartened when i read this kind of response in this forum (which is a lot). Some people have such a hostile mentality when they feel the protection of being behind a keyboard and not physically in contact with someone.

I mean.. read the title: I'm quitting the game, prolly for good!!
then read the content: game is boring, I was making millions here and there so I'm gonna buy an anaconda... :???

Yes. Because Bazmeson.

The problem is the content is almost asking for a cynical response... I ate the whole chocolate cake and six more besides, but it's disgusting and I'm never eating another! Cmon!

750 hours does seem a decent amount to get from any game. But i think some of the criticism is fairly justified. I just hate some of the nasty personal attacks i see regularly on here.

If there was any constructive criticism, then maybe. But this was just a rage quit due to someone parking on a planet and going to eat. The outcome was foreseeable and easily prevented. Announcing a rage quit against the game due to one's own easily avoidable and obvious mistake doesn't deserve anything less.
