Horizons Newsletters....MEH

Does anyone feel the same as me that the elite dangerous emailed newsletter's are getting somewhat "Dull" I mean most of it contents aside from a few images contain the info you can find in game, what ever happen to the old newsletters stating hey look whats coming, look at the new shiny ships or look at this concept art we are doing...No just seems a bit of skip through read these days, if your not interested in either the community races or new T-shirt offers etc.... I used to look forward to getting them seeing whats coming read all about it yarda yarda yarda, but perhaps it's me may sound a slight rant here but apologies but just be nice to see something different as there as there are so many 3rd party sites that tell you whats going on in game without the official version I guess, oh well....

Or they are going to drop something huge at Gamescom, or...they are going to drop something huge at Gamescom. Choose whatever of these options. [squeeeee]

If Frontier is this calm for so long...it only means that they are hard at working. Remember that they could be working not just in upcoming patches for Horizons, but also preparing content for the upcoming season as well. They sure have a lot of work to do.

Less than 2 weeks and we'll see in what they were working for these past months.

I miss the old days of the "sneak peek" and "dev update", when the newsletters had news about the development of the game. In these days long past, I kept refreshing the mail client after 5 o'clock, waiting to get the news. Friday's newsletter was one of the weeks highlights.

Now, well... I usually forget about the newsletter until some topic in the forum reminds me of it.

They are so dull. They are just a re-post of forum content.

Yeah...
They have been rather thin of late.
Like too little butter over too much bread.

And they have been rather sloppy with the version here in the forums.

I agree.

I grow tired of a newsletter full of screenshots and such. It was fine when there were a few at the end of a newsletter.

At least give updates on the progress of updates or actual news... Maybe lore based stuff.... Q&A's with devs...... How-to's or player questions.... Tactics for the different roles....

Player created emergent stuff is fine, but not an entire newsletter full of it.

I know they'll snap out of it.

The newsletters, to people like me who aren't actively playing right now, make this game look like a screenshot generator.

I think Frontier is holding onto as much 'news' as they can for Gamescom. If they reveal too much right now it will mean having not enough 'wow' factor at the event. I did enjoy the fact that whoever writes the Newsletter spelled 'Jaques' wrong at every opportunity though :)

The "newsletter" haven't had anything of any value in them, nothing even remotely newsworthy, for many months now; baring only a couple small exceptions. They are and have been nothing but pointless advertisement drivel and community screenshot garbage for a long time now. They might as well create one about the virtues of tasting one's own vomit before flushing for all the worth they've been. And honestly I think I understand part of the reason why:

They're so EXCEPTIONALLY late in progress that 3 of the 4 updates queued for this season are still yet to have even anything discussed about them let alone released. They have 4.5 months to get 3 major updates out and that has very little hope of being accomplished. On top of that they stopped posting on the dev update thread and haven't been saying anything anywhere else past a few token patch notes. They're so silent because ,I think, they are afraid of what the community's reaction will be to a notification of where things are. And frankly, they should be.

With this and the long standing game breaking issues such as instancing FD are on incredibly thin ice and as far as developers go, ...Well If you can't say anything nice and all....

Pretty much sums up my thoughts and fears.

My brief experience with the engineers update was extremely disappointing. All I wanted was a good missions system. With that, at least, I felt I could be happy with Elite. But it was still the same as before, with me hardly being able to take any missions, and the missions that were available were just insulting. "We'll pay you 1000-3000 credits to go here."

Honestly, I have about 70 mil in assets (or somewhere around there... it's been a while, but I know I've flown around a python on occasion), so for me to travel to several different systems and not find any missions worthwhile is just... bad. I don't care about the RNG "improvements," and care even less about grinding for resources.

I'm giving Elite another try to see if missions have been tweaked since then but my hopes are not high. With that at least I would be happy to spend a while on this game until either Squadron 42 came out or Frontier started pumping out some good content.

Would not put money on a season 4, looks like season 3 is even money, season 2 is a failure...

Yeah right, 2.1 was one of the most fat and least broken update we had in a looong time and we still have to wait 75% of the content for this season but you already consider it a failure. Good one.

arguable about least broken, but what I think he means is that what we got already was a failure. Gambling isn't crafting nor is it customizing. All it is is throwing the dice and hoping to get lucky (and in my case always getting unlucky). And of course the absolutely poor mechanics behind that such as no inventory storage and constant interdictions for your limpets and you get the pile that we did.
Also, having the year more than half over and still missing 75% of the season's content doesn't exactly make it a success either.

For you maybe, but not for many others. 2.1 for has been the best update by far. Really looking forward to the rest of season 2 as well. I will definitely be getting season 3.

The newsletters are a bit sparse as there is gamescon coming which should have a lot of news.
