using iMac with Parallels 14 to support windows 10. Downloaded Elite successfully but when activated window opens showing " Elite-Dangerous (CLIENT)" and nothing else happens. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you trying to play the game in MacOS or Windows? If you are still booted into MacOS then the game will never run, you will have to bootcamp windows 10 and play the game that way.

Even within Parallels it might well be the case that ED can't run due to the OpenGL version on OSX.
