"No plans to port Elite Dangerous to PS5"

What Factabulous said. I asked multiple times about current gen versions, and 4K support for PS5 but they didn't want to answer.

It's telling that both Cross Platform and Ship Interiors got the same "no plans" wording that current gen got, though
I wonder does ignoring current gen questions mean there are plans or was it just ignored? 🤪

Riddle me that.

I would very much like to believe that cross-play and ship interiors have to be being considered. Current gen shouldn't have been not considered in the first place. It used to be once a new gen of console came out, things stopped getting made for its predecessor. Perhaps it being so difficult to acquire current gen consoles has a big effect on this as the team working on it may be a larger number than the cmdrs playing on ps5 or xbsx

I think we have to take Frontier on their word, even without context or further explanation offered. For me, no plans means it's not in the 5 year plan - likely never.

Yeh Cross play isn't coming and the silence on PS5 is frankly deafening.

It seems the more streams I watch, the more they look like an exercise in futility for us in here.
Yeh fast beginning to lose what little shred of hope I had. We are a bit player in this saga, getting more bitty by the day.

Maybe I should just resign myself if I want 4K Elite Dangerous. It ain't going to be on PlayStation.

So, now we have the roadmap, which pretty much has nothing about consoles, as expected; now let's wait for the next "way station", that date which is closer to the console version launch, as Tolmie said, and see what exactly is going to make the cut for the consoles, and what not.

But I am not holding my breath.

The most refreshing stream in a long while.
i get ‘no ship interior argument - it’s a layer of hundreds & thousands topping on the game. I.e. a nice addition but doesn’t detract for the game if it’s not working. There are many more things needing fixes than the addition of ship interiors.

similarly, I can see why cross-play is currently is off-the-table. Lots of technical hoops to jump through with both Sony & Microsoft. A set of headaches Frontier don’t need at this time.

what I would just like to know is when consoles will get a bit of acknowledged care. Arthur’s said that he is trying to get a firm date but dates are fluid.
I don’t necessarily agree with that. Frontier will have a date in mind and if they were to be open with us, the community, they could tell us now. If technical issues come up that force a date change, then so be it.
Open comms will lead to much more grown up interaction with the player base.

Actually that is exactly what he said. That they have a rough date in mind, but as it is still quite a while away it may shift a couple of times.

And even if we would be fine with that, we shouldn't forget that FDev is a publicly traded company. There are some constraints what they can and should publicly state, and just guessing release dates if they're not sure whether they can meet them is not one of them.

And autumn is still the current info, right? That is very rough, but at least an indication.

Here's a Frontier game that is enhanced for current-gen:

Perhaps a member of the Community Management team would like to give us an update on whether there are still no plans for a current-gen console version of Odyssey ?

They won't even say when the Odyssey DLC will drop for previous console generation, let alone the current. I am sorry to be so cynical, but right now, whatever FDEV say they will do are just words. I don't see anything yet to change my mind, just some block of text posts with myriad of fixes, which just tell us how actually broken their finished product is.

It seems as though the new CM initiative to be more active on the forums only counts for Odyssey. If we want some sort of answer maybe we should ask in there.

I'm a little confused though as to why they'd reply to a request for binoculars, but continue to ignore an 80 page thread that's almost a year old, asking about current-gen console plans for Odyssey. Bit strange..

I know they've given the "no plans" statement recently for Ship Interiors, but at least they qualified that with some reasoning and a short explanation. Here, we're left with a very vague statement which is now out-dated and has resulted in a lot of speculation as evidenced here in this thread. It's time we had some clarification.

Did you expect anything else? When was the last time a dev posted in this thread with ANY pertinent information, besides "no plans" which at this point they could even trademark?

EDIT: I will be mildly curious to see, when they merge EDH with EDO, how many devs will cater to console players having problems, bugs etc. And how many will just have to caress the PC players, telling them "No, no, we didn't downgrade the PC version because of the consoles."

Any bets?
