"No plans to port Elite Dangerous to PS5"

Yep. Completely ignored. Just like every other time we ask.

It's painfully obvious, and very telling, isn't it?

The fact that it's just going ignored consistently since August last year is ... a little disrespectful?

@sallymorganmoore has acknowledged the question and we should give her a chance to get us an answer. You can get grumpy if we don't get a response in the upcoming dev stream, but until then I think it would be polite to reign it back a bit.

@Zac Cocken has had plenty of time to joke on troll threads. This threads been going on almost a damn year now. I feel like they've had PLENTY of time of us being patient

Well, Zac (and generally the CM team) cannot say anything about it.
It's like expecting a day at the beach with 30 °C in Antarctica (That will certainly happen, but not now - more likely in 100 million years when Antarctica will get to Equator once again because of Continental drifting)

Well.. actually they might have something to say about it sooner than 100 millions years, when we get closer to the Fabled Autumn release

Hey folks, confirmed platforms are still PS4 and Xbox One.
Really dissapoitning this Zac although thanks for confirming.

The game on PS4 is looking very dated, the PS5 would be able to push the resolution and settings up much like the Xbox One X does (and via BC the Xbox Series X). They also get a 4K mode which is sadly absent on PS5 because the PS4 Pro does not support it within Elite Dangerous. The PS5 is vastly more powerful than the Xbox One X.

If the PS5 is still going to be hobbled with 1080p for Odyssey this is really bad news. :(

Any boost in performance on the PS5?
Of course, it has a performance boost now via BC, the frame rate is better, it loads quicker, SC transitions are quicker, and the interactions with maps and stations etc are all improved but, the resolution is stuck at 1080p with sub-optimal graphical settings.

:(

Thanks for chiming in Zac - I know @sallymorganmoore is going to have a chat with the team and see if there is any more context that can be shared on the upcoming Dev stream.
I have to admit, now we have confirmation its not going to be on current generation consoles ill probably give EDO a miss on PlayStation.

Stuck in 1080p with a more unstable version of the game compared to PS4 Pro. Not really feeling it.

So - confirmed.
😞

I have barely touched Elite in the past few months. I have grinded to get triple Elite but if Frontier can’t be bothered to put anything into console gameplay, why should I?
Playstation appears to have been a cynical cash grab.
  • No Cobra mkIV
  • No 4K screen resolution
  • Dropped from launch of Odyssey in favour of PC
  • No timescales on when console development is coming and the first post by Frontier in however many months, just to say that Elite works on 7yr old console - effectively no plans for current Gen.

I’ve tried to keep the candle alive for consoles.
extremely disappointed.

Sorry you didnt really answer the question.

Saying the platforms which are confirmed is what we knew, the question is "(what) are there (no) plans for PS5"?
ie: the non-confirmed vision and road-map for PS5 is what we want to know.

It doesnt need to be firm plans, we wont hold you to it and cry in 6 months time "you promised", i think we can be mature and set expectations from what you have as a vision for current gen consoles (PS5 specifically).
eg: resolution, frame rate, niceties like HDR or raytracing etc, cross-save, keyboard support, can we get things like toggle the FPS counter on/off?

We'd hope such things are already being discussed, and if not can they be raised in the next project meeting?

You have to @ him or he doesn't see it.

Personally this is a waste. Start talking to the content creators. Get the 'media's' attention. Raise awareness places other than here, in frontiers yard, where they make the rules. Put it on Twitter, reddit, youtube, twitch, Instagram, snapchat, freaking MySpace if it will reach MORE cmdrs. The few we have here obviously aren't enough cause for concern.

Sadly as VR player being in the same ditch as you, what they said literally means NO PLANS for current gen consoles. They are trying to string you on hope so that you will buy hoping that "one day" it will come. Well expect only "LOL NO" as the answer to that, similarly what we VR players heard after the infamous "no VR at launch". Many PCVR commanders fell into the trap of goodwill and bought anyway. And now further VR support in Elite is on the same level as "one day we will have flying cars". But currently there's not an one soul working on VR features (bar fixing some promised bugs).

I think this is the most worrying doom-sign of them all. No plans for current gen consoles and problems to port to old gen - the future doesn't look too bright. And I don't think will pull a Sean Murray - because they have other thriving franchises, and can leave Elite on life support to make passive money off that and not waste much resources on it. Win-win for .

They cannot confirm something that is not bolted on.
Simple as that.
What do you want? a confirmation for an autumn release? If they dont make it in time, they will get shafted because "you promised"
They got a lot of fire for the delays to carriers. Pretty sure they will not repeat the mistake again
