No Single Player offline Mode then?

I am in really bad mod, so I will called by the Real Name for me Cheating Mode..... but really that will be the last, because I see here and in other Post that the MP Fraction celebrate there Victory

A complete over reaction on your part. Ask for a refund and leave, don't [redacted] it up for everyone else with your self-righteous petty attitude.

As an aside, I don't see the problem: you are online (by virtue of the fact of you are posting here), the game offers a solo mode (albeit online). Yes, you need to be online to play the game, but given the richness of the universe it is a fair trade off in my opinion.

Unless of course you want to complain for the sake of complaining?

If this is the way you feel try to get your refund and move on. You guys sound like jilted lovers. It's a game, FD is not your fiance/spouse.

To be fair, I think your reaction and reactions like yours are over-reactions to others reactions, regardless of whether they were over reacting or not. Just my opinion/observation.

With utmost respect, they've confirmed how offline would work since the Kickstarter. I know you're a developer, I work for a developer, I don't really feel this was communicated to users when it should have been.

I'm quite upset as I intended to play ED in solo while my brother, in Mexico City currently, played in offline mode. Sharing stories, information, etc. I have persuaded people like him to buy the game, I feel like I supported it more deeply and lied to people by telling them that it would have a completely offline mode. There is no way they found out about this today, so giving me the information today? I feel disrespected and I feel sick that I gave wrong information to others, who went onto spend their money.

Judging by Michael's comment about refunds I feel I am wasting my time posting about this, but I also feel I need to do it to stop myself feeling sad about this. I have such fond memories of sitting in my friends house as we both played Elite II single player obviously on our Amigas, talking about the upgrade or ship we just bought, where we were, what rank we just reached, etc. I wanted that with ED and all of a sudden I can't have it, despite backing specifically for that opportunity.

This is the first post that communicates a genuine sadness in response to the offline mode being scrapped. I totally get that your brother and you won't be able to relive Elite memories. I actually feel sad reading this.

It's a damn shame and I hope your brother gets into the game somehow, sometime.

While I am hugely disappointed, I don't really agree with what you're saying in that post, or how it is said.
I honestly thought of doing the same on a forum I frequent....though I would have been objective and informative.
Now Im too tired to even be bothered to be bothered to do it.

I feel the same - I've been encouraging others to get into it as well - people with no interest in online gaming, or bad internet services like mine. It's not as if this was a rumoured, future feature (like planetary landings, that hopefully will be in future updates) - it was stated clearly on the store page until recently that would be available upon release.

I can manage with Steam because at home I can boot it into offline mode and play everything I want - and I can manage updates and purchases by going into work/uni and downloading things there.

I get it that it doesn't affect some people - and, to be honest, I'm very envious of you guys - but for those of us with unreliable internet connections this is devastating.

I too was looking forward to making single player mods which, sadly, will not be an option now.
But I am not grabbing my pitch fork.

Let's be fair here and quote directly from the original KickStarter text:

The future is uncertain, things change beyond anyone's control; it is possible to be mature in response to this.

Apologising for this shouldn't be a mods job but what do I know? Think people are being mature myself. This was a big deal for many folk having a completely offline mode.

I simply cannot believe that the intimated problems with having an offline mode hasn't been known internally for a very long time. The fact they are saying this now at this late stage is disingenuous at best.

New to the game and community but thought id post my thoughts on this situation anyway, to me the MP side was a fun bonus that i would play now and again but to be honest was looking forward to playing this game for many years to come even if for what ever reason the servers were eventually shut down not sure how long they expect to keep the servers going as there is no subscription to pay for them. But ive played other online based games for sometime now and they are still running and they will eventually shut down one day too which is sad but i knew that going into those games.

I havent invested anywhere near as much time or money as some of you guys have but i do feel dissapointed myself but mostly for the people that have been here since the beggining on the understanding that there was a single player mode that could be played offline. I only hope that the devs can come up with a way that people can still play this long after online mode has gone even if it is nowhere near what it is in online mode.

I will continue to support this game in the hope it will be around for a very long time but i do hope there is a solution that keeps people happy with the product that they paid for.

Eng :)

I wonder how the story goes on now.
Media will love writing over the bad news, cause they love bad news.
Stock holders don't. It will be interesting.

If you bought ED because it was claimed to have an Offline mode then I would believe that to be False Advertisement.

Now that you mention it, the way (or the way I remember it) Michael posted the link to Customer Services seemed off. Not sure it was like "don't like it ask for your money back and go away" or "Ive gotten your money and you've played it somewhat, you wont get it back anyway", but that's the kinda vibe I got.

Note: My "vibes" are rarely correct.

The written word, without any other visual or audible input is easy to read into wrong. Pretty much every post I have seen by Michael is a bit curt. I'd take what he says for what it is and not read anything more into it. I reckon if the vibe you are getting was right he would have just come right out with it.

Btw... thanks for putting R. Kelly - She's Got That Vibe into my head... DOH ;) Off to You tube I go!

irony, it's likely the stock holders pushed for a non offline drm policy.
that's the only thing that explains the situation imho

It is so easy to be mature when something doesn't effect you and only affects others, (especially a minority).

The irony is that most of the complaints in this thread have been expressed rationally and with maturity. Obviously there has been a vocal minority that have over reacted or the language barrier for some has come across as aggressive or immature, but what has been far worse has been the constant prodding and flame baiting by the trolls and one liner know-it-alls that think they are safe from this kind of last minute fundamental design deception.

Maturity is a double edged sword, both camps need to practice swinging it around; lest the dragon of adolescence consumes us all in an epic fireball of childish insults.

Most likely, Shame none the less.

Considering the game, my usual sig consisting of "Im so badass, I even scare myself" wouldn't work as well.

In my case its bit like Alzheimer's. Sometimes Im my age, sometimes im 10yrs older and sometimes im 10-15yrs younger.

LOL .. You really dont have a clue about stock holders do you ...

More than likely is that Offline will come at some point, but currently they dont have time to do that considering the game is launching in a month (but thats a different discussion.)

soo well now tell me which new game is comming out next time in which you never ever need an internet connection.
