No Single Player offline Mode then?

It is not a false equivalency, but that is beside the point. You are making assumptions. I never enjoyed or used. Lastly, if the boot fits, wear it.

You never downloaded or played the Beta or Alpha? Not once? If not, I am, again, sorry you were not able to get a refund. It really is a very fun game.

I understand the frustration, but insults make your position look weak and only serve to escalate a discussion into an argument. Surely we can be a bit more civilized?

LOL so in 10 years from now you would still be able to play a 10 yo game that by comparison will be total rubbish to what can be done then. Sounds great, games have a useful life of about 2 years max. Then they are outdated although some still choose to play them instead of staying current.

Wow, better tell GOG.com that their business model doesn't work, then.

Does it matter?

Well, if you are any of the above, then you have a valid grievance to express.

If not, then you're a bloody troll just taking advantage of a bit of controversy in order to self-aggrandize, and not actually an invested member of this forum.

No, you are doing generic forum argument #326, I have explained why this thread is damaging, stop trying to get me angry at Frontier.

Yeah you explained, all from YOUR perspective. You didn't answer my question about all those other people from this very same community you seem so worried about. What about them and their, frankly, legititmate anger?

I've now posted FDEV's visibly reported and "to date" refund policy, namely their apparent decision to reject anyone who's not a strictly defined "Pre-order" only to Eurogamer, and filed for my refund, to hell with Frontier. I might have been willing to hear Braben out if he could do more than simply issue puff pieces and give us something a bit more meaty but the way Frontier have treated it's own customers is utterly reprehensible. Playing semantics with your own T's and C's to minimise your exposure to refunds when you make a controversial announcement is nothing short of commercially cynical.

You should damn well be angry at Frontier, because they're apparently treating their own fanbase as nothing more than a disposable source of income. It looks like once they've got what they want they dispose of us and you're trying to do the same.

I get wary when someone starts trying the, "lets be civilized," line on me. Usually it's a prelude to someone trying their best to shut you up, and seeming like they are oh so reasonable. If I look weak so be it. I am just fine with people making up their own minds.

No, I explained it from my dog's perspective.

As I already said, twice, take your legitimate anger and direct it at Frontier, not the community, not me.

I am disgusted at the decision to drop the offline play! This was NOT on the cards when I stumped up on Kickstarter!

Correct...

"Physical DRM-free boxed edition of "Elite: Dangerous" plus all rewards above (please note: the disc in the pack is simply an alternative way to install the game - it will have the same online account[\B] code whether installed off disc or downloaded digitally).
Estimated delivery: Mar 2014 Ships anywhere in the world"

Let me quote from the KS FAQ - Will I need to connect to a server to play?

" Update! The above is the intended single player experience. However it will be possible to have a single player game without connecting to the galaxy server. You won't get the features of the evolving galaxy (although we will investigate minimising those differences) and you probably won't be able to sync between server and non-server (again we'll investigate).

Just trying to give you some friendly advice, poet. Not attempting to shut you, just elevate the discussion to less of an argument and more of...well, a discussion.

Anyway, sorry for your troubles. Hope you resolve things the way you want.

My dog asked me to post the following:
Dear Frontier, hire a community manager.

Sticking it in one thread to burn out doesn't work when it's linked all over the gaming press.

Community is your best asset, please protect it.

DRM, Digital Rights Management, is a horrible thing and I oppose it in principle. That's a very long conversation and not for here. But at any point did you not have to provide a username and password to play the game? I ask this seriously, because a lot of people seem to think that's what DRM is, and shows just that they don't know what the term means. Because all the time I've played this, it's asked me for a username and a password and required a connection to an authentication system before it would let me go fly.
You are correct, and I agree fully. I did not mean to say or imply that it say it is technically DRM, but quite frankly: the current system shares so many fundamental problems with real DRM in terms of access or deniablility to paid single player game content on your own machine that I have a hard time taking defenses of it on the basis of that technicality seriously.

Well I haven't participated in alpha or beta so fortunately I'm only out of pocket for the computer upgrades - probably a bit higher than I would have gone this build - but to wait until the game has been completely funded and then announce a promised main feature will not be present is less than inclusive.

As it stands I only have internet access through a USB modem so it looks unlikely that I will be able to run it, therefore unless I can definitely ascertain that I can run it I won't - sadly - be preordering a game I have been hungrily waiting for for ages :(

That's fine, and thank you, I just said it makes me wary, I didn't say I thought you actually were trying, but you never know. :)

Jonbe54, if DBraben can play it fine, on a train, over a cellphone tether - which, from experience is dropout city as one moves from cell to cell at high speed - then I'm pretty sure that any internet connection you can find will be sufficient for Solo play.

me being part of the fansbase i am actually quite happy with the way FDEV are treating me. i happen to think they are making a great game, they look very capable of delivering that new landmark title. they have been engaging with me since day one of the kickstarter and ever since, always quickly, honestly and as far as i can tell to their best ability. and yes i have had disagreements (which i kept to myself but involved a GBP 500 pledge tier) with FDEV, too. they have also just recently refunded me nononse on premier tickets.

oh and good morning, to you loudly roaring tiger ;)

My opinion is that I bought two products from the Elite store, that where delivered with promises in mind.

I don't want to take the future game away from you guys, I just feel like Frontier pulled a bait-n-switch on me.

A simple refund would shut up many of us. Apparently we are a small group, so it should be possible.

Food for thought - it may not be just internet connection - He/she may not want to share the universe with anyone. Being "affected" by other players is a lot more than just avoiding player pirates and unwanted dogfights. Found a sweet trade route that you want to exploit? That's great, but if you log off and then come back a few days later when you get some more time to play, there'll be dozens of other players who will have found it and flipped the market upside down because, surprise, FD is forcing you to use the same market simulation as all the open-play people.
