Newcomer / Intro No target direction indicator?

So, I just tried the game for the first time, having skipped all the various alphas, betas, gammas and whatnot since I don't care much for playing unfinished games. I didn't get far - the server kicked me off before I could even leave the starting space-station, but whatever, it's launch-day, stuff like that is basically expected these days. I'd complain about it, but it'd just make me sound like an old fogey on a 'these days' rant.

More to the point, I DID mess around in the Training Programs for a while, learning the basics. It HAS been quite a while since I was zooming around in Elite II, after all. And I almost immediately noticed a rather serious absence: If I target something outside my field of vision (like, say, a space-station I'm trying to get to), there's NO indicator on the screen as to where it is. I basically just had to swing my view all around the place until I happened to spot the targeting-reticule. That's... problematic. In combat, it may not be a big deal since you can spot stuff on your radar, but knowing which way to point your ship for general maneuvering is rather handy.

I went through the options, but didn't spot any toggle for 'Show me where the heck I'm supposed to be going, please'. Did I miss something? If so, where? And if not... how am I supposed to play this game without chewing off my own arm in frustration every time I need to go from A to B?

you got a compass on the top left side of your main radar for tracking stellars or things like stations.
looks like a circle whit a dot inside.
full dot means target is ahead, and hollow dot means target is behind.

You see the little round target thing to the left of your scanner , top corner? Well that aligns you to stations you have targetted or USS , planets , landing pads . Use the main scanner to get the target ahead of you in combat with another ship . I guess it will take some practice if you never played Elite or its other iterations but its not that hard honestly.

Aye hehehe. solid dot is your going the right way open circle meens its behind you as the audience would say in a pantomime

This bugged me too at first, but I then realized that the compass on the left side of the dashboard serves that function. Once you are locked on to a target, you just follow the blue dot. Of course there is also the main radar screen. Between the two, you can tell exactly where your target is. It just takes some practice. I would prefer a target pointer but the system in Elite works once you get used to it. Different strokes! ;)
