Newcomer / Intro Noooooooooo !!!!!!!!

Well I guess it had to happen, after reading innumerable stories on here about people doing silly things and loosing x million in cargo I have joined the club.

BHing in a RES which has been pretty good to me, I'd been getting some small fry and finally some of the bigger boats had been appearing, and I'd amassed about 350k in local bounty and i was up to 300k in Alliance and about 150 in Empire, which was starting to concern me and was making me thinking about heading of there to collect. Anyhow, a Python appeared with a 102k bounty so though t i stick around for that, and then a 150k 'Conda appeared which i also collected on. So sitting on ~1.2mil bounty in total, which is 50% of my total credits.

Time to make a move, but oh look there's a couple of canisters of Silver over there, time for a spot of smuggling. Grabbed this first one no problem, and just about to grab the next when "Ship scan detected" cue quick panic, slam the cargo scoop closed and hot boost. I think you all know what's coming. Like an iceberg on the glassly Atlantic that fine April morning, an asteroid the size of Nebraska appears menacing out of the gloom .... and i face plant into it at full speed.

Eject! Eject! Eject!

Cue the insurance page "Tell me sir, exactly how did the accident happen?"

As Zphod would say " 10 out of 10 for style, but minus several million for good thinking."

You gotta laugh haven't you "shruggs" oh well all part of life's rich tapestry as they say.

Yep planted my Asp into an asteroid in a RES when on the dark side of the planet. Didn't even see it coming.
1.5 mil to replace, almost 2 mil bounties. Did the boost thing with identical results.

Now I live for dark RES swerving around the almost invisible bolders in my Vulture with lights off.

Well I've managed to recover 500k of bounties now, so not the end of the world. Though on hte way back to the station i got IDed by a Clipper, and i'm in an Adder.

Run away! Run Away!

Sometimes I think that dark side, light side, it doesn't matter. You won't see that one asteroid coming, with all the light in the world. The last two times it's happened to me, I'd like to think it was my evasive skills and not blind luck that left me with no shields but still half a hull left.

I did discover that Voice Attack is triggered by a few choice words...have to look into that. Fortunately they were harmless things, especially at the time.

Lucky it wasn't self destruct or silent running and boost. ;)

Some things should stay manual only. Silent running isn't bad, as long as you realize what's going on.

For what it's worth, the command it thought I said was "hail ship". You can imagine what set that off.

Stupidest thing I have done would be on the dark side of a planet hunting bounties with FA off and was travelling backwards whilst firing at a Conda and slammed into an Asteroid, Though the credit loss wasn't fun, I had to laugh at it all though, and hey at-least my Cmdr didnt see it coming and died instantly!!

In my old Viper, that's the only way I could fight them too. Firing away like crazy, backing off and backing off... until I backed right into another Anaconda. What are the chances??

I survived the collision. Not what came next.

Maybe you both should have fitted the reversing camera module.

Ill get my coat.

Hah, a rear-view camera would be cool. Though it might be really freaky if you could activate it in supercruise when going at speeds > 1c. What exactly would you see behind you? Complete and total darkness? Creepy.

Ah, wait until slamming into an asteroid is just 1/3 of the reasons you lose 2.99 ships in one evening

/truestory :)

*Reads story, gets to silver part...* *Shakes head knowingly* *Puts hand over mouth in disbelief, shock, and understanding* *Eyes Widen at mention of boost* *Suppresses a smile and a shudder at same time* *Mention of iceberg sends chill down spine* *Laughs at comparison of asteroid to Nebraska*

Lol - thats pretty much me while reading your story. It sucks...but funny. I feel for you I do, but that was agreat read. Especially because I had a similar experience mining lol.

You'd see the same as forwards. Remember, you're traveling at the relative speed greater than c, not actually doing it in your ship's frame of reference. Even in the ED universe, reaching c is impossible.

What I would NOT want to see is several octagonal vessels gaining on me despite A Maxed FSD, Thrusters, Shields and sensors (the worst being that only the rear view camera sees them; the A class sensors are clear!).
